Sean, here's a good place to start. If you run in to any specific problems
or questions definitely post them here.

Hi, I can find a few questions regarding the use of distutils for making non-python windows installers, but none of them really helps. Are there any pointers on how to do this? Can it be done? A little OT: What about making MSI installation files instead of .exe? Is it a good idea to consider at all?

I have to modify an existing window service. I runs on a PC at different location (France). After modification I tried to install on my PC (W2K, SP3) and VS2003. I'm getting 'No public installers with the RunInstallerAttribute.Yes could be found ....'. So I follow the MS link http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/msdnmag/issues/01/12/NETS erv/toc.asp

I've been using Visual Studio Setup projects to create my application installers but Setup projects seem to be a tad limited. What's a good alternative? I'd prefer something that doesn't cost an arm and a leg like InstallShield, and I assume there must be something out there. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I'm running Windows XP at the moment, and occasionally Windows ME. I've downloaded the following Net Framework installers, and I'd like to know which ones are necessary, and whether I'm overkilling by installing all four of them: Version 1.0 Update to 1.1 (file is called "NDP1.1sp1-KB867460-X86") Update to SP3 (file is called "NETCFSetup") Net Framework 2.0 Beta 1

I'm having a problem with the .NET installers that I create using Visual Studio .NET. I'm able to create the installers and deploy them on the target machine, however, when I run the installed application, parts of the installer keeps popping up giving you the impression that it is still installing software. This of course is very annoying and useless since the application already seems to be fully installed and functioning as expected. ...

I wasn't sure where to post this since it's not 100% programming related. I need advice on installers to give to my company clients so that it installs: - .NET 2.0 Framework Run-time (22MB) - installs some ASP.NET files into specified web/IIS folder - ensure/set aspnet_wp user account full access on specified web/IIS folder What installer can do this? Are they free programs, and where to get from?

Hi all, I am trying to find out what tools (platform-independent if possible) that I can use to package a goup (few) of installers to become an exe application. I have heard of Py2exe but have not use it before. Could it be used to wrap different installers (for example Python and Leo, python-based application) together? Does the installers have to be python-based to be able to use Py2exe? Are there any other alternatives? Many...

Installers Each device within the wireless network (computer, printers, auxiliaries) must be installed with a Network Interface Card, or NIC. The NIC transmits wireless signals from the access device and enables each device in the network to send and receive signals. Installers must also decide which of three industry standards by which to designate to the network. These industry standards are 802.11a, 802.11b, and 802.11g -- these...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
