I think the .NET framework is great!
It's nice, clean and logical; in contradiction to the old Microsoft.
It only saddens me that the new Microsoft still doesn't under stand there own rules when it comes to file paths.
A lot of Microsoft installers for example, and also installers of other companies, do not work because they handle paths in the following manner:

I created an extremely simple windows service that only writes to the
EventLogs on Stop and Pause. I installed it using the InstallUtil.exe
program, the output of which is below. It appears to be successful. I'm
now ready to start my service (I think) but the NET START command does not
appear to indicate that the service is available to be run. The output for
NET START is below as well. The Services list in the W2K administrator...

This is a little complicated to explain but I have some web services on a
machine that work great.
The problem is that I have run into a situation where I need to set up my
program to access one or another (could also be 3) different web servers to
use these Web Services. The Web Services are identical on all the machines.
I tried just changing the URL of the Web Services and cannot make it work.
I then decided to create 2 identical web...

I'm trying to write a generic method to generate Hashcodes but am having some
problems with (generic) collections. Here is the code of my method:
public static int GetHashCode(object input)
{
try
{
Type objectType = input.GetType();
PropertyInfo properties = objectType.GetProperties();

I'm a Tcl/Tk developer who has been working, slowly, at learning Python,
in part because Python has better support for certain kinds of
applications that I want to develop than Tcl/Tk does. Naturally, I
thought that I would use Tkinter as the GUI for these programs. However,
in doing research into GUI development techniques, sample code, and
showcase applications, what has struck me is how little sophisticated
GUI development seems to be...

I want to define a class that has a generic parameter that is itself a
generic class. For example, if I have a generic IQueue<Tinterface, and
class A wants to make use of a generic class that implements IQueue<Tfor
all types T (so it can make use of queues of various object types
internally). As useful as this is, it doesn't seem possible. The natural (but
illegal) notation would be something like
class A<QueueClasswhere QueueClass :...

I'm not sure if I've just lost it but, I no longer see the property SyncRoot
on a Queue. I see that it's a member of the ICollection Base Object, but it's
not exposed.
Was this intended? Besides writing a wrapper class for Queue, what is the
intended way to lock the queue to enforce proper synchronization?

Hi,
I have just started using Generic Collections for .Net 2.0 and so far
they are working very nicely for me. But, I do have a couple of questions.
If I have a Generic collection which has a type which is a reference type,
is there a way to get Collection.ContainsKey(RefKey) and Collection
to work with different instances of equal keys?
For example, I have defined a class of "codon" and I have made a dictionary
private...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...
