Hello all.
We don't have admin privs on our Windows boxes, but I'd like to be able
to install a package built using distutils. I was able to install
Python without admin, but when I tried to run the installer for this
package I'm trying to install, I get a message saying that I need admin
privs.
Is there a way around this? Why can't it just put things in
C:\Python23\Lib\site-packages like a good little installer?

I need to unpack on a Windows 2000 machine
some Wikipedia media .tar archives which are
compressed with TAR 1.14 (support for long file
names and maybe some other features) .
It seems, that Pythons tarfile module is able to list far
more files inside the archives than WinRAR or 7zip or
TotalCommander, but will it unpack all available files
(largest archive size 17 GByte)?
If tarfile is build on TAR 1.14 or TAR 1.15 it will be

I'm now using Cygwin as my compiler for C code. I use Dev-c++ as my
editor.
The reason why I chose Cygwin compiler instead of the compiler that
came with Dev-C++ is that I believe it uses the same environment as in
Linux, so that I don't have to write different sourcecode for both OS.
Eventhough, I don't understand about Linux much, and I'm still a
beginner in programming, I still have to make my program compatible
with both OS (Windows...

I created an extremely simple windows service that only writes to the
EventLogs on Stop and Pause. I installed it using the InstallUtil.exe
program, the output of which is below. It appears to be successful. I'm
now ready to start my service (I think) but the NET START command does not
appear to indicate that the service is available to be run. The output for
NET START is below as well. The Services list in the W2K administrator...

I'm trying to write a windows application in C# (Using Microsoft Visual C#
2005 Express) that is nothing more than a simple UI with buttons on it. The
buttons do various things like running programs and executing registry
entries. The majority of my buttons work however, I have come upon a problem.
I need a few of the buttons to run DOS batch files, the batch files in turn
run program installers (specifically windows update runtime .exe...

connect to database as it fails with the error message.

Hi everyone,
which compiler will Python 2.5 on Windows (Intel) be built with? I
notice that Python 2.4 apparently has been built with the VS2003
toolkit compiler, and I read a post from Scott David Daniels where
he said that probably the VS2003 toolkit will be used for Python 2.5
again. However, even before the release of Python 2.5, I cannot seem to
find many retailers around here that still carry Visual Studio 2003,
and some were a...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
