How do I set up users without their having admin priveleges ?

3 New Member
I support a multiuser C# application that allows each user to save and retrieve data to a MS Access 2007 database.

I have lock problems because each user is "seen" as admin
in the database and admin privileges enforce full locks (as I understand it).

Is there a simple way to default all users to something other than admin ?

Thanks for any assistance.

V2007 did away with the user level security.

Record locking is dependent upon how you are establishing the connection to the database and how the record-sets are being created.

Thanks for your reply.

I apologize, I should have written "I support a multiuser Visual Basic 5 application ..."

I have MS DAO 3.6 set as a reference and use following VB command to open the database
Expand|Select|Wrap|Line Numbers
  1. Set mDB = OpenDatabase(myDatabase, False, False)
I'm no expert in use of Access database and am looking for a simple way to make the DefaultUser setting be something other than admin.

Is there a way to programmaticall y set DefaultUser in my VB code ?

I've moved your thread to the VB forum as they may have better answers for you.
I know in MS Access 2003 and below, you had to develop a new workspace and set users there-in... not sure what you would do from a VB aspect to achieve this same structure. I do know however, no matter what you do, once a user opens your database using v2007 or newer, the user level security WILL be stripped upon conversion... and there's nothing you can do to stop it once the user can open the database.

Anyone know how to display process id's (normally found by going to Component Services and switching to applications to 'Status View') in a web page? I'm trying to keep remote users from having to terminal server or use com+ to view the process id's they need for asp debugging (via attaching to a process (remote debugging via dcom and machine debug manager)) Thx in advance,

Dear all, Could anybody tell me whether there are ways to use an existing DLL file in Python without having access to the source code? I'm trying to find a way to use the image filters available in the Filters-project (http://filters.sourceforge.net/) without having to compile or build the DLL myself, which is according to the authors very hard.

I heard there is some trick to referencing statics in C# CLR stored procedure without having to mark the assembly as unsafe. Does anyone know this? This is usefull as the case of needing a little static shared variable here and there without having to compromise safety in the Sql Server 2005.

Hi, I've got a slight issue which i'm trying to resolve and was wondering if anyone would help. Basically, I was building a web application, and while it was being built I was connecting to Oracle as a User with Full admin rights. Now the system is built and ready to be put live, so therefore, I decided to create a new user that can only do insert, select and update queries e.g. they can't run queries to create or drop tables. Now...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
