failure recovery in a cluster?

Just had an IBMer tell me that even with physical partitioning
that if one node fails, the transactions of those people/apps
connected to all the other nodes fail while the cluster starts
HACMP and recovers from the failure. I thought only those
people/apps connected to the failed node would see a problem.

Is what the IBMer said right?

If you are talking about an active-active configuration, are we talking
about people/apps that are connected to a different db or application
.... or to the same database/application as is running on the failed node?

Four nodes serving the same database, one node fails, the other
three continue to serve the database.

Greetings, I am seeking information related to this subject. BOL suggests backing up the active transaction log immediately after a failure, so that the backup can be used in a recovery scenario if necessary. This is the relevant text from BOL "Transaction Log Backup": ----// The transaction log backup created at 8:00 P.M. contains transaction log

Cluster services gives the high availability needed - that is great. But I have never seen any discussion about what happens when a node fails - what do you do to get everything back to the active-passive tandem. I imagine there is not much difference in terms of recovery procedure for either active or passive node. So I'm just going to make up a scenario that we have encountered. The system hard drive (not the shared disk) on primary...

The Windows platform provides a mechanism to automatically restart a service when a failure occurs in the 'Recovery' tab in the services panel. It allows you to specify actions on first, second and subsequent failures. My question is this: How does my C# service indicate to windows that it is stopping because of a failure, so I can use the built-in Windows failure mechanism?

Hi, I have a problem with a cluster of two nodes (A - instance-owner node and B - partition node). Everything (db2start, db2stop, db2 get dbm cfg...) works perfectly until I add the second node B in the db2nodes.cfg. So, my db2nodes.cfg looks like this - "0 <node A hostname0", and when I try to add the node B with "1 <node B hostname0", db2start reports a

First let me start by saying I am not a DBA nor do I claim to be one, ok with that out of the way I am looking for some help understanding DB2 UDB Recovery after Total Media Failure or Server Loss due to Extreme Disaster. Currently on my system hot backups are being run on a daily basis with cold backups being executed during a down window on the weekend. The backup data is sent to tape which is then sent off site for safety. Hypothetically,...

Hi all, I had a node failure and rebuild on a sql server 2005 2 node cluster. the server has been rebuilt with new os. i evicted then re-added the rebuilt node via cluster administrator. i cannot not reinstall sql server (or failover). Failover fails because the sql server resources are not owned by the rebuilt node. There is no option to add in the new node as a possible owner because the rebuilt node does not exist in the modify...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
