DB2 UDB Recovery after Total Media Failure or Server Loss due to Extreme Disaster

4 New Member
First let me start by saying I am not a DBA nor do I claim to be one, ok with that out of the way I am looking for some help understanding DB2 UDB Recovery after Total Media Failure or Server Loss due to Extreme Disaster.

Currently on my system hot backups are being run on a daily basis with cold backups being executed during a down window on the weekend. The backup data is sent to tape which is then sent off site for safety. Hypothetically, what would I need to do to rebuild the database (BCP Plan) using the backup files on a new server should I need to recover.

Would laying down DB2 UDB on the new box then restoring the cold backup be sufficient to recreate the environment? Example all components from structures to table data thus a mirror image would be created or is there more involved? Is my understanding correct or would I have to employ additional procedures?

Looks like for the first time in 6 years, I'm experienced some database table corruption. This was due to the space filling up on a server (you don't want to know how that happened). I have 3 tables corrupt and the others are fine (which I dumped to be safe). I have a backup which I could use but then I realized that maybe there might be some "surgery" I could perform to get the table "repaired". Note that the normal recovery that the...

We are evaluating Postgres and would like some input about disaster recovery. I know in MsSQL they have a feature called transactional logs that would enable a database to be put back together based off those logs. Does Postgres do anything like this? I saw in the documentation transactional logging but I don't know if it is the same. Where can I find info about disaster recovery in Postgres. Thank you in advance for any info given. ...

We are seeing what looks like pgsql data file corruption across multiple clusters on a RAID5 partition on a single redhat linux 2.4 server running 7.3.4. System has ~20 clusters installed with a mix of 7.2.3, 7.3.2, and 7.3.4 (mostly 7.3.4), 10gb ram, 76gb on a RAID5, dual cpus, and very busy with hundreds and sometimes > 1000 simultaneous connections. After ~250 days of continuous, flawless uptime operations, we recently began...

I have two questions about HADR recovery. I am running db2 v8 fp12. 1) If the primary suddenly crashes would you always want to switch the standby to the primary by force...or would there be times when you would want to make it a standard? (and why) 2) Let us say the primary suddenly crashes (someone pulled the power cable) and you switch the standby to primary by force. Then you bring the primary back up and issue a START as...

I have a tool that uses the Windows Media Player to display certain products to users. It works great on my machine, but I am having great difficulty on one of the "product" machines. To help find the problem, I have installed VS 2005 on the machine so that I can at least figure out what the problem is. When I run the tool, I get the "class not registered exception." I do ot know which clas, but when I open up my code, the...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
