sql server cluster node rebuild failure :(

Hi all,

I had a node failure and rebuild on a sql server 2005 2 node cluster.
the server has been rebuilt with new os. i evicted then re-added the
rebuilt node via cluster administrator. i cannot not reinstall sql
server (or failover).

Failover fails because the sql server resources are not owned by the
rebuilt node. There is no option to add in the new node as a possible
owner because the rebuilt node does not exist in the modify list.
Maybe this is normal because the rebuilt node no longer has sql server
on it.

So, then i tried to install sql server via 2 methods:

1. via add\remove progs on old, good node. change . . . takes me
through to 'maintain virtual server' but i enter the VS name and it
errors with 'name not valid'. presumably because it is not unique?
clearly i don't want to create a new one.

2. via set up on new rebuilt node. same problem. i cannot get past
the virtual server.

Have rebooted, evicted & readded . . . users inc. service accounts =
local admin etc. etc.

Can't find anything useful on tinterweb. Can anyone help?????

Thank you!

Make sure have read and understand this.

when you run select * from sys.dm_os_clust er_nodes do you still see
the old node. I suspect you do.
I suspect that quickest route would be to remove SQL from the cluster
(using setup) and re-add it (using setup).
What does the application event log say btw.

Good afternoon, I'm trying to set up a clustered DB2 v7.1 database on Redhat Linux 7.3. I've followed the instructions (as far as I know) in the accompanying documentation to set up the database on 2 nodes. Running db2start on node 0 I get the following message: 11-19-2000 10:12:44 1 0 SQL6048N A communication error occurred during START or STOP DATABASE MANAGER processing.

Just had an IBMer tell me that even with physical partitioning that if one node fails, the transactions of those people/apps connected to all the other nodes fail while the cluster starts HACMP and recovers from the failure. I thought only those people/apps connected to the failed node would see a problem. Is what the IBMer said right? Mike

We are trying to setup a system to system failover cluster using two nodes (x346) which each have a single hba running to seperate controllers on the DS400. For full redundnancy, IBM recommends dual path from each node but we dont need that. The current setup has two completly seperate paths. hba on node 1 to controller A on DS400 and hba on node 2 to controller B. If i take a controller offline, failover works fine to jumo to other...

Hi, My SQL Server 2005 won't start - can anyone provide some help? This seems to be the most significant error: - TDSSNIClient initialization failed with error 0x5, status code 0x51. There was some info here, but the reg key described looks okay: - http://blogs.msdn.com/sql_protocols/ I am running SQL Server 2005 64-bit Standard Edition. The server in

Hi All, I'm hoping someone will have some words of wisdom for me regarding MS Clustering on Windows 2003. I have a service that runs on a cluster. During invocation it's supposed to determine from the cluster which node is active (this is a active/standby configuration) and either proceed or sleep depending on the status. The interface to the cluster is that advertised by the standard interop layer built by Visual Studio for the...

Hi, I have this theoretical problem: Say that I need a chat server that also has a database where it saves all conversations. However, I need several servers for availability and load balancing. Now arises the problem of how to synchronize the servers in the shortest interval (synchronize databases that is). I'm not sure that merge or peer-to-peer replication in sql 2005 is the best solution for synchronization (because it still has a...

The problem is that after reducing MSDTC security to "No Authentication", it mostly seems to work correctly, except that after a brief period of inactivity (a few minutes), the first attempt to use DTC fails, but subsequent attempts are successful, until inactivity again. The original environment was a single machine with SQL Server installed and a service on another machine that would connect to the same SQL Server but utilizing different...

I installed the SQL Server 2005 SP2 update 2 rollup on my 64-bit server and the performance has tanked! I installed rollup 3 on some of them, but that did not seem to help. I thought it was just a linked server performance issue, but my optimization started running today on one of the "update 2" instances and so far it's been running about 10 hours longer than it normally

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
