Where's the Scrolling Text Control in MS Access 2003?

176 New Member
I've found out in Access's help that there is a Scrolling Text Control in the toolboox. I don't find it in my Access though.

Strange huh?

Does anyone uses it?

Thanks for help.

Sorry for reposting, I've found the control, but it's greyed-out. Any ideas on why can't it be used?

I could be wrong, but I believe that things being greyed out in AC2003 usually results from running an AC2000 db in AC2003. You can run it in AC2003, but you have to first convert the app to AC2003 before you can make any design changes, hence all of the design tools, controls, etc are not available.

You can definitely make design changes to an Access 2000 database in Access 2003. I do it all the time.

You may be right about some tools being unavailable, though.

Both Linq and Killer are right in a way. Making design changes to 2000 application in 2003 can cause problems but you can make most design changes.

Solution is to convert a copy of the database to 2003 and then convert it back to previous version when finished. You will have to check for incompatible libraries, functions, etc. Just run the compiler when you reopen the application in 2000.

Thanks, folks.

I've convereted it to 2002-2003 format, reopened the converted file (veryfied it is a 2002-2003 format) started a new form, and that control is still greyd-out (together with the Bound Span control, as it was in 2000 format).

I even started a new 2002-2003 format database, and it's greyd-out.
Any other thougths/suggestions would be welcomed.

Regards.

Hang on - a new form? The online help said that the control can only be used in a data access page, or whatever those things are called. You know, the web ones.

I didn't understand what's "data access page". Thought it might be a form.
Anyway, thanks.

Wish it could be programmed on a form though, since a scrolling text can be programmed in VBA anyway, and it's a cute thing.

Yeah, it sounds like a very handy contorl to have. Maybe one of us should reproduce it as an ActiveX control.

Off you go Killer. ;)

Data Access Page is 'kind of' a web version of a form.

Merry Christmas everyone.

I just noticed that control tips aren't working in any of my databases. I recently installed Access 2003, and created a database in it, and noticed that control tips weren't working in my controls. Hi All, I've noticed that in a lot of my forms and tables, when I'm on continuous view, I can't scroll when the focus is in a field or on a control. Meaning, if I have a list, and start scrolling, it always jumps back to the focus the second the scrolling is done. While I like this in some cases, it can get to be annoying. I try to
