ControlTip Text Doesn't Work

I just noticed that control tips aren't working in any of my databases. I
recently installed Access 2003, and created a database in it, and noticed
that control tips weren't working in my controls. I was using control tips
with command buttons in the form header. But they also didn't work with the
command buttons in the detail section, nor with text boxes in the detail
section.

I tried converting the file back to Access 2000 format, but that didn't make
a difference, neither in Access 2003 nor in Access 2000. I also tried
creating a new database in Access 2000 and gave a control tip text to an
unbound text box in the form; but the control tip didn't show up there
either when I moved the mouse over it.

I am simply adding text to each control's ControlTip Text property, as I
have done in the past, nothing more. But it seems that since I installed
Access 2003, this feature doesn't work properly, neither in Access 2003, nor
in Access 2000.

Is there anything I can do to get this to work?

Thanks!

IIRC, this may be a small bug.

Select on the problematic Control(s) and use the Menu Command Format / Bring
to Front and (I think) the ControlTips will work.

Yeah, I tried that, and it's the same. Also, I tried it on a new database
with a new form with nothing on the form but a text box, and it didn't work.

But here's something: I sent the database as-is to my client and he used it.
Said that when he put the mouse over the buttons, the ControlTip text came
up. So it's not something with the database, but with my machine. Something
got screwed up, either when I installed Office 2003, or some other time.

Anyone have any idea what file should be reinstalled to get the controltip
text to work again?

Thanks,

Neil

The controltip text has disappeared in all of my databases in Access 2003 (Access 2000 format). The same controltips show fine when running under Access 2000 on my laptop. Maybe I've missed it, but I can't see anything that turns them off globally. Any help would be appreciated.

THis is probably an easy one. I want to change the tool tip text in a continuous form for a visible field based on info in a hidden field on the same record. It is easy to put the change in the current event and that works great, as long as the user clicks in the desired row BEFORE he hovers over the field to see the control tip text. Is there an easy way to set this up so that it works without having to force the user to click into...

I tried to put some text into the controltip text of the properties of a command button. I tested it out and nothing happened. I have the status bar text, but I want the text tip that hovers when I mouse over. I looked all over and found stuff on putting it in code. Not what I wanted, because I thought you could just put it in the controltip text property. I tried it out anyway and that doesn't do anything either. I put this code on a...

Hi everyone, Does anyone know of a way in MS Access to have the ControlTip Text that can be set with a message to pop up with the date/time that the field on the form was last updated along with the username of the person who updated the record? I'm using the fOSUserName() function from Dev Ashish to get the users name but I'm not sure how to get these details included in a ControlTip Text popup or if it's even possible. Hope someone...

Hi All, If utilized as a sub-form, the ControlTip Texts of all the labels (you know...you can hover the mouse over either the control itself, or the label for that control) flickers like crazy. Hover the mouse over the control itself and it's fine. However, if I put the mouse over the short distance between 2 controls, it also will flicker. Get the mouse solidly over one or the other control and it's fine. Also, this sub-form, if...

I've developed an Access interface for a non-profit. I just discovered that the controltip text feature does not work on precisely one of their machines on the network. I've seen that another member has encountered this, but I'm hoping that he or someone else knows more now. Info about this bug: 1. When running this database on (networked) Machines A and B at the office, as well as C at home, the controltip text feature works fine and...

All: I've inherited a DB with many forms and have been asked to make use of the ControlTips feature to improve the user interface. For ease of updating, I'd like to maintain the ControlTip text in a table - that way I have a single place to enter and edit the text and a complete list of ControlTips can be sent to those who inevitably whine that "they weren't consulted on the 'tip text and would have written it differently."

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers.
