Going mobile with PDA: Palm OS or PocketPc platform ?

I wondered if some people have recent experiences to share and what tools
they chose, to connect with an Access db (either batch update or wireless).
The little application that I have in mind is stock taking for inventory. I
have a very good experience with my old faitful Palm IIIE (not for this
application). But Pocket Pc seems to have caught up and PocketPc just
gives me the impression to be simpler now. Maybe I am wrong. I want the
possibility to have a form, managed by events.

A bit off-topic, but I am also looking for rugged PDA recommendations to
be used in an hostile environment.. TIA.

Try www.ecom-ex.com for a ruggedized PDA.

I've never bought one, but saw it at a trade show and it looked
reasonably impressive.

Good luck

Hello, Currently I used Biomobility's DataOnTheRun for the Pocket PC. It's a little slow, but it does exactly what I need -- and it does it well. Unfortunately, now I need to have the same thing for the Palm OS and, unfortunately, DataOnTheRun is Pocket PC only. Can anyone please point me to reviews of such software? There seem to be dozens of these kinds of tools, but no where to go to research the differences.

Hello, I'd like to get a bit of a pole on what PDA software any (or all ) of you use with MS Access. I'm interested in creating a PDA interface to the database, but was wondering if there is anything that will allow you to sync directly with the Access database. Any information I could get would be great. I'd also like to get some resources on PDAs with bar code readers in them; any ideas?

Hi I have an application which runs on a desktop. I want to synchronise the DB with a PDA app, which also uses SQL Server 2005 (mobile and express). I believe that I will need to write my own synchronization application, in order to update the data across the machines. My questions are: - Is there a way of picking up an event that will notify my application when the PDA is connected to the desktop??

Hi I am required to do some work on a palm pilot PDA and would like to know if ASP.NET 2.0 is up to the job. Obviously I would need the Mobile Toolkit but am I right that the toolkit is best run using asp.net 1.1 rather than .net 2.0? I need to create an application that will allow a user to select items rather than enter text, have multiple tabs and be able to transfer data. Is a web app or a winforms app the best way forward?

On the weekend I ended up picking up a new HP-iPaq PocketPC to help organize my everyday life. My boyfriend was so impressed with my new toy that he traded his Palm in for the same HP-iPaq that I'd picked up. Later that night, to his horror, he discovered that there was no reader for the PocketPC that would work for his EBooks that he loves so much. Does anyone know of anything out there that we could use to let him read his...

Hello together. Thanks for giving me the opportunity to talk with software development experts. I'd like to develop an application to run on a PDA involving GPS. In this context I've got a couple of questions. 1. Will Windows Mobile recognize all functions from the Windows Platform SDK? 2. I don't get the whole .NET thing at all. Is .NET a collection of functions just like in the Platform SDK?

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
