Restrict internet usage (Can this be done?)

178 New Member
Hi,

I have a computer that is running 24/7 which is connected to the internet and is accessed remotely. The problem I am having is that people in the office in which it is located are using it to browse internet. I cannot lock the screen as these people are supposed to be monitoring realtime data on it.

Is there anyway which I can stop people browsing the web?

Thanks in advance.

A few ways you could do it.

1. Set the PC's firewall to block http port 80.
2. If you have a router you can set it to block port 80 for that PC only.
3. Rename iexplorer.exe to something else.
4. Set the options in IE to use a proxy server but just give it a bogus proxy to connect to.

It shouldn't cause you any problems unless you are using some sort http based remote connection.

Hello, all! I'm having a small problem displaying an ordinary GIF file on my web site. It's just a banner with a transparent background. When I have Norton Internet Security disabled, it displays fine. When I enable Internet Security, the GIF disappears when I refresh the page - it doesn't even show an image placeholder. (Test was run with IE and Netscape). And you know what? I keep hitting refresh with Internet Security disabled, and...

Hi there, I need to write an application which should monitor user activity client-side and transmit captured information to a central server. User activity means application usage and "internet activity" (browsing, FTP, or whatever). For the application usage part I decided to implement WMI Win32_Process events which will do fine; however I need a solid approach for the internet activity part - some advice would be greatly...

Hello everyone, I've developed a calendar program in javascript, and up until now I've done most of my testing using Mozilla and Firefox. Everything works fine, but when I try to use Internet Explorer my response time is sometimes 50 times slower than using Mozilla. I know I haven't given you much to go by, but I'm not looking for an answer so much as an approach to debugging the problem. For example, does anyone here know of a good...

Hi, I am building a windows application that has a feature that retrieves a set of records when a button is clicked. When the records are being retrieved I experience a complete system degradation, including other programs that become unresponsive. Here's what I found while the retrieval process is running: Using the Windows Task Manager, I can see the the "Page File (PF) Usage"

If you were to compile/run the code below, and get the result '30', I'd be very interested to know what compiler you're using - and its optimisation settings #include <stdio.h> int test(int * a, int * b) { *a = 5; *b = 6;

We have created an ActiveX control (a series of them actually) which can be loaded into Internet Explorer and accessed via Javascript using the techniques described here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555687/en-us Functionally, everything is working as we expect. We can access the C# data we need from Javascript, including firing C# events which invoke Javascript code. However, we started seeing that, should we leave the...

I need to build two executables from my code, one having all the code (and thus application features) and other not having it all. How to best manage the code that shouldn't go in one of the executables? My first thought is to use conditional compilation with #define and #ifdef etc but its getting messy, are there better ways to manage this? The problem in detail: #. There is a class A with virtual foo1 and foo2

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
