Hello, all! I'm having a small problem displaying an ordinary GIF file on my
web site.
It's just a banner with a transparent background. When I have Norton
Internet Security disabled, it displays fine. When I enable Internet
Security, the GIF disappears when I refresh the page - it doesn't even show
an image placeholder. (Test was run with IE and Netscape).
And you know what? I keep hitting refresh with Internet Security disabled,
and SOMETIMES the image loads, and sometimes not!
The document site in question: http://members.cox.net/grundage/links.html
(Banner is at bottom of page)
This is frustrating the heck out of me. What is going on here? Any info is
appreciated. Thanks! :-)

OK, you need to upload files to your web host's computer (cox.net). It
sounds like that what you're doing now is keeping the file on your
local computer instead. I don't know what programs you're using to
create the webpage and upload the file, but you want webpage links and
images to be relative to the page url, not your hard drive.

Actually, grnban.gif works for me, even if I request it without sending a
Referer line.
I'm not familiar with Norton Internet Security, but I'd suggest looking at
its log files, if such exist.
This is probably not an HTML authoring issue.

Check your CPU usage while testing this with NIS enabled.
On my system, using both Mozilla and IE, the CPU usage goes
to 100% with NIS enabled, and the page doesn't display in the
browser viewport until I stop the loading.
After that, the behaviour is different, depending on which
browser I use, and I can see the banner, but if I do a
force-refresh, the original problem reappears.
I suggest you move your questions to a forum related to
NIS.

Don't I recall reading previously in this group (alt.html), that one
of the features of Norton Internet Security is to suppress things that
look like <cough> banners?
Perhaps this is configurable: I do not know.

yes an gif is a kind of href and you need to ftp-upload it to.

If I can download it, obviously the OP has uploaded it enough.

I'm running VB2003 on a new Dell Laptop where Dell in its infinite wisdom put
on Norton Internet Security. UGH! Maybe I should have paid business rather
than home prices:-)
At any rate with Internet Security turned on, when I debug my console
application, VB 2003 hangs and the program never gets to the first line.
When I run the program stand alone - Norton says that the program is
attempting to connect to a DNS server. SAY WHAT?...

Hello All,
I have recently had the pleasure of installing Norton Internet Security 2005
and finding that I can no longer create or open a web-based application in
Visual Studio .Net. The IDE just freezes. I tried fiddling with the
configuration settings of the Norton Firewall but was not successful. I
tried launching IIS from the Control Panel and it would not launch.
I saw one article in Groups.Google from a previous post that the...

Hi all,
I developed a web site that uses javascript and XMLHTTP to dynamically load
info on the page from the server without having to re-load the page.
Recently I've received complaints of it not working, and the common thread
is that these users have Norton Internet Security installed (sorry, don't
know the version, but let's assume the latest). I don't have NIS. Can anyone
give me clear instructions as to how a user can change his/her...

I'm certainly not the first to write about this subject, but I came
across it after buying a new PC with NIS on it and it messed up my
site without telling or yelling.
I solved it by this statement in the <head></head>
<script src=http://www.mydomain.com/norton.js></script>
and the script at http://www.mydomain.com/norton.js contains the
follwing code:
function undonorton(){
infected=false;

Hi,
If you use Norton Internet Security, you might be having the same problem
I'm having when developing on Visual Studio .net.
Before, when using vb6, I had only once to set a rule on the firewall to
permit VB6.exe to access the internet and I could run any project without
getting the "Program Control" pop-up window.
Now, with visual studio .net, every time I run/debug a project, that
annoying "Program Control" window pops up and I...

I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".

This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
