sql2005 eval upgrade to retail version fails...

7 New Member
Hi,

I installed the evaluation copy on a server, the eval license expired, and now I'm trying upgrade to a retail version. I have read the docs http://support.microso ft.com/kb/914158/en-us and http://blogs.msdn.com/sqlblog/archive/2006/09/17/upgrade-eval-edtion-to-full-blow-sql-2005-editions.aspx but I'm still stuck with errors, esp in upgrading the Reporting Services module.

First question: Can we use either Std or Ent versions to upgrade the evaluation version? Looking at the MS website, the eval version can support unlmited processors, it must have the same architecture as the Enterprise version.

Second: We have uninstalled everything as per the first doc above. Started installation again, the basics were installed correctly, then the system configuration check went smoothly (all green checks!), then proceeds with the module selection. I selected the first 3 (Reporting Services included). The procedure said that I still have the latter installed and will do a check, so it did, and it gave a message:

Reporting Services
The Reporting Services "ReportServ er" virtual directory was not found under the default Web site. It certainly isn't as we have uninstalled it.

From here, we can't move on. I did uninstall everything (a check on the Add/Remove Programs doesn't show anything).

Is there a trick here that needs to be done aside from the above docs?

Your help will surely be appreciated.

Thanks!

Hello, I bought Visual Studio 6.0 Professional several years ago as a college student with the academic price/license. Microsoft's Upgrade Eligability page (http://tinyurl.com/3mtga) does list VS 6.0 Professional as an upgrade, but it mentions nothing about the academic license. Does anyone know of a Microsoft page that states whether the academic version may or may not be upgraded to a single license of Visual Studio .NET 2003...

This might sound sad... someone requesting a disertation on the 'eval' statement... but... I've been reading someone else's post - they had a huge calander like script and a handful of folk cursed the script and special attention was thrown at the fact the script used eval alot. I don't use eval alot in my scripts - but I do use it - and since I always out to learn more / improve my javascript skills, I'm curious why something I thought...

I hope I have the right forum for this question. I have an existing Windows application which uses a SQL Server database and stored procedures. I am now developing a web application to use the same database. The original Update and Delete SP's all use a timestamp for concurreny checking. I am trying to use the same Update SP from my sqlDataSource but I keep getting the following error:

well, I need to justify to my client, why to switch to sql2005 form 2000. I know a lot of 'why it's better', but my client don't really care most of those aspects. I need to argue, my client's business gains on that. Thnaks in advance.

Hi, We have shifted one of our data processing to a new instance of SQL 2005. For this a new DB was created in SQL2005 and it is not an upgrade of SQL200 DB. The data processing application is a VB6 application that runs a batch process to insert about 4.5 million records everyday in this SQL 2005 database. I am using ADO

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
