Invoking long running web request asynchronously.

Hi all,

I am having problem in one web method which i am running asynchronously

I set oneway attribute in web method.

What i want is once client called this web method this should start
asynchronously.

My client is windows application means after calling web method
asynchronously if client has closed application still my web method
needs to be running in background.

As my web method is long running i don't want it to depend on client
once client as initiated it.

So i called up that web method asynchronously.

As i read some where that once client send web request client has no
connection with web service. web service process that web request and
not depend on who has called up that serivice.

If i am wrong in logic please correct me.

My client application and web services was working properly.

Suddenly if found one problem, that after client has called web request
after some time processing of that long running job suddenly stopped.

I am not getting why this is happening.

And main problem is in web service itself i have catched exception and
written that in log file.

But in above case exception is also not raised.

Once i got error that is thread was aborted. But later on when i
retried same scenario no exception was raised still my long running
process stopped suddenly.

Can some one shed some light on it.

Any help will be truely appreciated.

Please help me asap as it is very very important for me

Thanks in adavance.

Hi, I am working on an application that can use functionlity in some sort of plugins. I have implemented this by using Assembly.LoadFrom and MethodInfo.GetMethods. The calling of the plugins is handled in threads. All works fine, but when I call a method that processes for some time, the mainthread (my form) becomes unresponsive.

I'm having issues with garbage collection with my long-standing service process. If you could review and point me in the right direction it would be of great help. If there are any helpful documents that you could point me to help me control the GC, then that would be great also. The .Net GC does not cleanup memory of our service process unless it is forced to by another process that hogs memory. · GC Algorithm - This is an issue...

I have a timeout issue with a long running web service, and I can't figure out where the timeout value is coming from. In the client I end up getting the following exception: The underlying connection was closed: An unexpected error occurred on a receive. at System.Web.Services.Protocols.WebClientProtocol.GetWebResponse(WebRequest request)

Hello, I have an issue with a long-running import process in our asp.net app (1.1). After the user initiates an import, we're trying to make periodic xmlhttp requests to update a progress bar. In development (running the webserver on localhost) this works fine. When we move the code to our build environment, the webserver won't respond to the xmlhttp request until the import is done. I've tracked the problem down to the session ID cookie...

Hi Everyone, As it says in the title, I'm looking for a way to display a page while long running operations are performed on the server. Ideally, I'd like some way to push the current request onto some stack, where it would continue to be processed asynchronously (most importantly preserving things like view state, form post data, etc). In the interim, while the main request is processed, a friendly page will be displayed to the user....

Hello, I write a lot of CGI scripts, in Python of course. Now I need to convert some to long-running processes. I'm having trouble finding resources about the best practices to do that. I've found a lot of email discussions that say something like, "You need to educate yourself about the differences when you have long- running processes" but I've not had a lot of luck with finding things that explain the differences. I've seen some...

I'm experiencing a very odd problem and it's happening only in IE6. IE7, Safari, Opera and Firefox are all working properly. What's happening is that I'm using XHR request responses to update the pages DOM, there appears to be a conflict and/or race condition that pretty much locks the browser down for several minutes until one of the requests times out. A huge red flag stands out to me from the XHR object documentation...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...
