Form Flicker

Here is my problem:

I have a MDI application and when I load my child forms I get alot of
flicker.

I have tried to implement double buffering :
Public Sub New()
MyBase.New()

'This call is required by the Windows Form Designer.
InitializeCompo nent()

'Add any initialization after the InitializeCompo nent() call

' Stop the flicker
Me.SetStyle(Con trolStyles.User Paint, True)
Me.SetStyle(Con trolStyles.Doub leBuffer, True)
Me.SetStyle(Con trolStyles.AllP aintingInWmPain t, True)
End Sub

but it did not work.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Michael,
My understanding is you need to call UpdateStyles after you call SetStyle.
Public Sub New()
MyBase.New()

'This call is required by the Windows Form Designer.
InitializeCompo nent()

'Add any initialization after the InitializeCompo nent() call

' Stop the flicker
Me.SetStyle(Con trolStyles.User Paint, True)
Me.SetStyle(Con trolStyles.Doub leBuffer, True)
Me.SetStyle(Con trolStyles.AllP aintingInWmPain t, True) Me.UpdateStyles () End Sub
Do you child forms override the OnPaint method or have controls? If they
have controls, I do not believe the above will help, as each control still
needs to paint itself.

Hope this helps

I am using Access 2000 and have a form with an image background (the clouds that came with Office). I also have an OnChange event on the Item control. Me.txtLength = 55 - (Len(Me.Item.Text)) Everthing works just fine. I then added a tab control. Now, whenever I add/change/delete data in the Item control, the screen flickers. If I take out the event, there is no flicker. If I use the event and remove the image, there is no flicker. If...

I have an MDI application with two maximized child forms. At any given time only one of the child forms is in the foreground and visible. To alternate between the two child forms, I can type Ctrl-Tab. This results in a seamless toggling between the two forms - no flickering. However, when I attempt to use my own code to toggle between the two forms (the user clicks a menu Window>>Child1 or Window>>Child2 to fire this code), I get a...

Hello I have a class that's derived from a normal windows Form. I call it BaseContainer. It has a Panel and a built-in method to add another BaseContainer derivative inside that panel. I hoped that this would allow me to show different forms under that same parent form. It works as it is intended but the problem is that the whole thing flickers so much when a form is added. Say I have a BaseContainer derivative called A which has B, which...

Hi all! I have a problem regarding form loading speed. I have forms with many controls and some time ago I've implemented a fader that uses a symbollic millisecond of fade time to buffer the layout of the form. It works great, no flicker whatsoever, but even with settings on minimum, it creates some noticable delay between all form loading operations and final show. When i turn it off, form loads practically on click, but with ugly flicker...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
