Please Help : .NET 1.1 Runtime can't install on a IBM MicroDrive HD ??? (Removable HD)

Hi all,

I am trying to install the .NET framework 1.1 runtime package on
Windows 2000 SP4. While the installation starts well, I get the
following message box during the installation process :

Please insert the disk : Microsoft .NET Framework (English) : OK
Cancel

Pressing the OK button will check the floppy drive for a disk and
display the
messag box again. Pressing the Cancel button will ask me if I want to
cancel
the installation.

I get this message when the installation is copying the file
System.Configur ation.Install.d ll.

I try to simulate this on the desktop computer (with regular IDE hard
disk)
and gain the same result, as long as I put the Netfx.msi and Netfx.cab
in the CD.

Here are the procedure:
1. Install Win2000.
2. Install SP4.
3. Execute the Netfx.msi in CD.
4. Error Ossur.
5. Copy the Netfx.msi and Netfx.cab to Hard disk.
6. Install successfully.

But my target machine using IBM microdrive as the storage device, so
it is still a removable hard disk to win2000. Seems like the installer
won't let me install to a removable hard disk.
I deeply appreciated any help on this issue, thanks !

I feel that you will need a act of a higher power to get that installed on
removable drive.

I really don't know what is going on down in the framework classes, but I
would guess that to get the speed required by applications in general, and
the way that windows will load the .net framework. I doubt installing to a
removable drive is supported.

But alas, I have seen stranger things before.
Good Luck, I think you will need it.

ASP.NET deployement project setup.exe files "see" large drive partitions as negative size -- and therefore will not install on them. This is bad. Having to teach my clients how to install using xcopy is bad. Not having an easily removable entry in 'Add/Remove' programs is bad. Any clues on when this will be fixed?

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows.
