Googles sponsored links are quite clearly marked as such. As long as
they are honest about them, I don't have a problem with their trying to
generate some revenue. Any other forms of payment for position in a
legitimate search engine are unethical.

poster->Jeff Relf <__**********@N CPlus.NET> The people running Google make Bill Gates look like a retard .
They were smart enough to wait before doing their IPO .
They forgoed buying mansions , yachts , and muscle cars . Instead they peddled their bicycles to work .
the one luxury they afford themselfs is
good food. every Google employee can
eat lunch at a cafeteria staffed by a Gourmet
chef...sure beats the blivet burger...
check out this blog: http://googlemenus.blogspot.com/
ps -- most people who work for microsoft
are contract employees who are treated
like *shit* -- they are routinely lied
to by the 'permanent' managers, sexually
harassed and threated with their jobs.
They are promised full time jobs that
never materialize and then if projects
go downhill they are blamed..
basically Bill Gate$ the Creep is propped
up by a lot of young cannon fodder....

There's some stuff on this in the Naomi Klein book ('No Logo') I was
talking about in another thread. Apparently Microsoft were worried that
temp workers might start claiming employment rights because many of them
had been there so long, so they ruled that MS funded
social events were out of bounds to temp workers.

Ask yourself this question: Seeing as how the basic operating principles of Google are pretty well known, why can't a software company with a bottomless R&D budget build their own competing product?
Actually, they tried and failed. Look at MSN search for a case in point.

No. It i just that this NG attracts lots of people where the minimal
description would be "idiot". It will quite often not be enough, so instead
"moron" or "cretin" is more appropriate, but using any more words would
just waste them
BTW, you are an idiot

Hi,
Anyone has the background for explaining?
I have made a search on my name and I have got a link to another
search engine.
The link's title was the search phrase for the other search engine (a
wicked phrase). Some but not all of the words of that phrase exist in
my website.
I reported it and they removed the link but did not give explanations.

Are the differences between a search engine, a subject directory and a
meta search engine significant for an ebusiness web site owner?
A meta search engine merely uses ordinary existing search engines.
A subject directory classifies websites into some category.
Could anyone point me towards the differences between these three that
are significant for an ebusiness web site owner?

Does anyone know of any Libraries using .NET for the Indexing, Search, and
Retrieval of Text Documents? I am searching for API's to analyze a set of
docs and convert text into indexable tokens, create indices and then harvest
query results from those indicies.
Similar to Apache's Jakarta Lucene project: a high-performance,
full-featured text search engine library.

Does anyone know of a way to create a search page under ASP.NET 2.0?
I have started out by configuring a catalog in Index Server,
registering the aspx, ascx extensions in the registry to allow them to
be indexed and built the catalog as per KB article, but I've run into
an interesting problem.
When you publish a website from Whidbey, it precompiles everything and
strips out the searchable details of the page (metadata, html, etc)...

Is there anyway to get the results to open in new windows?
So if the user were to select the "ALL" option, is it possible to open 3 new windows with each result displaying?

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
