MYSQL on SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server Distribution not working

I am not able to get MYSQL running on Suse Linux Enterprise Server.

I tried stopping with the command mysqld and it reported, "Shtudown
Complete." Then when I tried to restart it with the command, "mysqld
–user=root" I get the response "mysql.host " doesn't exist. If I try
"mysqld – user=mysql", I get numerous errors.

I installed Suse Linux Enterprise Server 8 from CDROM and included all
options. I saw the MYSQL is part of the distribution so I assumed it
was set up properly. Apparently, that is not the case. I tried to
uninstall just the MYSQL and downloaded the MYSQL from the MYSQL web
site and tried to reinstall it according to the documentation but
found the SUSE Linux uninstall did not uninstall everything because I
kept getting error messages about conflicts between the MYSQL version
leftover stuff from the SUSE distribution and the newer version I
donwloded from the MYSQL site. I tried to manually delete everyting I
could but to no avail.

I gave up and reinstalled the whole SUSE Linux distribution. The very
first thing I did after the installation was complete was to try to
issue a mysql command as root and got the following:
"ERROR 2002: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket
'/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (2)"

Obviously, something is not quite right on my SUSE Linux distribution.

Can anyone please advise me what I need to do to be able to use MYSQL
on the Suse Linux Distribtuion.

Folks, I have installed MySQL v4 (client, server and development rpm's). I've tried and failed to use the recommended mysqladmin to set a root password after the installation (I have another post open on the MySQL newsgroup about this). I'm attempting an alternative solution and using webmin (www.webmin.com) to create/manage access to my databases. Webmin reports "Warning: The Perl module DBD::mysql is not installed on your system, so...

I've installed the last stable MySQL version (4.0.14-standard) under Linux, (Suse-8.0) kernel 2.4.28-64GB SMP, form the binary distribution that i downloaded from www.mysql.com. I'm interested on implementing the embedded server within my clients programs but the distribution do not have included the libmysqld.a library. There is a possible solution to this without having to get the source and compile it. Thanks Vladimir

Hi all, I'm having great problems trying to install the latest MySQl RPM package onto my Red Hat Linux OS. There is already MySQL v 3.0 pre-installed with the RH Linux distribution disk but I can not seem to get any of the functions working on it. So I have now dopwnloaded the latest version hoping that this will fix the error. I have managed to install the MySQL-shared-compat-4.0.1-0.i386.rpm but

Hello, I've tried resolving this issue in a SuSE newsgroup, but after trying their suggestions and working on this issue for far too long already, I decided to try this list as it may be a more appropriate discussion area. I've installed and configured MySQL 4.0.18 on a SuSE 9.1 system using the default RPM's that came with the distribution. I created a simple database (one table with InnoDB engine type) and have

Yes, I know you've seen the above subject before, so please be gentle with the flamethrowers. I'm preparing to enter a discussion with management at my company regarding going forward as either a MySql shop or a Postgresql shop. It's my opinion that we should be using PG, because of the full ACID support, and the license involved. A consultant my company hired before bringing me in is pushing hard for MySql, citing speed and community...

Looking at http://www-306.ibm.com/software/data/db2/linux/validate/ it told us that db2 v8.1 is not validated yet for suse90 professional ed. Do you have any experience regarding the stability of db2 on that or other up to date linux platforms ? Has anyone using that configuration made a call to the db2 support ? Does the support appease that questions ? Best regards.

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
