certification/validation resp. stability of IBM DB2 UDB for state-of-the-art linux distributions (eg. suse 9.0 professional)

Looking at
http://www-306.ibm.com/software/data...inux/validate/
it told us that db2 v8.1 is not validated yet for suse90 professional ed.

Do you have any experience regarding the stability of db2
on that or other up to date linux platforms ?
Has anyone using that configuration made a call to the db2 support ?
Does the support appease that questions ?

Best regards.

I've been running DB2 V8 successfully on my SuSE 9 Pro laptop for some time.

However, note that this is only MY LAPTOP : it's not being used to run
production services, and any problems encountered would not stop my
business dead. IBM will not provide support other than on the officially
supported platforms (or at least they are not obliged to). For production
use I'd recommend SuSE Enterprise Server.

The first thing you'll find is that you will have problems with the
graphical install. This is due to the version of the Java Developer's Kit
installed by default when SuSE is installed (it's a Sun JDK 1.4 I think).

If you look in the "errata" link on the documentation page above then you
will find a similar problem reported with Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3.
There are two alternative solutions : install a supported JDK (I believe
IBM JDK 1.4.2 ?) or install without the graphical installer using
db2_install. I did the latter : you need to do instance setup and creation
manually afterwards. You'll find this documented in a paper I wrote for
IDUG Solutions Journal -

http://www.idug.org/idug/member/jour.../article04.cfm

I still believe you will need to install a compatible JDK to use the
graphical tools (e.g. control center). Since I tend to be a "command line
junkie" I've not done that yet. although I hope to work on it shortly.

You may also need an external JDK to run Java Stored Procedures. There is a
DBM CFG parameter JDK_PATH which controls which JDK to use.

Any problems don't hesitate to drop me an email.

We have installed DB2EE on Suse 9.0 and it shows pretty good
performance
and stability.

The hint for installing via gui was to install a IBM JDK 1.4 and
to fake one of the installion files which is located on the
installation
cd. Otherwise we havent managed it that the installer took *our*
JDK!

suse90:/var/IBM_V81_Express _Edition/cdrom/db2/linux/install # diff

Hello, I wanted to find out what MySQL administrators think about MySQL installation on RedHat and other Linux distributions with the use of RPM. RedHat reallocates all MySQL files into different places in the file system. Is it easier to learn MySQL administration on a non-RPM MySQL installation? Are the standards that are used in books, articles and guides more relevant to non-RPM installations? I get a sense that it's better to...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
