oracle9i on which linux distribution in production? feedback needed plz

Hi,

I was wondering if there are some users out there, that use:
"non commercial enterprise" linux distributions (like suse linux enterprise
server8, or redhat enterprise server 3)
with oracle database 9i in production environments?

Are you using one of those in production:
1) gentoo,
2) debian
3) suse professional
4) slackware or
5) red hat
5) xyz?

How big is your oracle db, what is your experience with those distributions?

Which linux version would you recommend for a production environment?

In advance, many thanks for your feedback!

I think most people would argue that if you are using Oracle in
production then you would want to be on a certified platform - so would
hav to go with the enterprise distributions. Failure to do so would
mean you might as well not bother to pay Oracle support as you may
struggle to log any calls.

If you are happy to go against conventional wisdom, then there are
clones of the enterprise linux distributions;

"White Box Enterprise Linux" - http://www.whiteboxlinux.org/
Tao Linux -- http://taolinux.org
CentOS -- http://www.caosity.org

Personally, I have used mainstream Suse & Redhat as there is a wealth of
newsgroup postings and howtos for installing onto these distros and not
much to choose between them in terms of ease of install.

What combination of component versions is required to get Python, DCOracle2, and an Oracle9i database on AIX 5.1 working together? It seems that installing on AIX 5.1 with Oracle9i has at least two challenges: 1. The libclntsh.so file doesn't exist and that file is referenced in the installation. There is a libclntsh.a file but that is now what is referenced. 2. The lib sub-directory is now the 64-bit Oracle distribution (don't know if...

I am not able to get MYSQL running on Suse Linux Enterprise Server. I tried stopping with the command mysqld and it reported, "Shtudown Complete." Then when I tried to restart it with the command, "mysqld –user=root" I get the response "mysql.host" doesn't exist. If I try "mysqld – user=mysql", I get numerous errors. I installed Suse Linux Enterprise Server 8 from CDROM and included all options. I saw the MYSQL is part of the...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
