Howdy,
I'm trying to figure out what bytecode version a given class was
compiled with. I've tried looking at the actual .class file, but that
didn't pan out.
Is there a utility to determine versions?
thanks!

Hello,
I'm currently working on a little tool that would benefit from having
a little embedded script language. Although I have C++ source code
available for such a script language, I have 2 concerns:
- The capabilities of the C++ script interpreter that I've written are
rather limited (of course I can solve this)
- My little script interpreter was written for readability rather than

This may be a dumb thing to ask, but besides the penalty for dynamic
typing, is there any other real reasons that Python is slower than Java?

I think you would agree with me that a C compiler that directly
produces Java Byte Code to be run on any JVM is something that is
missing to software programmers so far. With such a tool one could
stay with C and still be able to produce Java byte code for
platform independent apps. Also, old programs (with some tweaking)
could be re-compiled and ported to the JVM.
We have been developing such a tool over the last 2 years and currently...

Java programmers seem to always be whining about how confusing and
overly complex C++ appears to them. I would like to introduce an
explanation for this. Is it possible that Java programmers simply
aren't smart enough to understand C++?
This is not merely a whimsical hypothesis. Given my experience with
Java programmers --- the code they write and the conversations they
have --- Occam's Razor points to this explanation. For example,...

Some think it will.
Up untill now, Java has never been standard across different versions
of Linux and Unix. Some think that is one reason that some developers
have avoided Java in favor of Python. Now that Java has been GPL'd that
might change.
IMO: it won't make much difference. But I don't really know.

I was working all day yesterday (and will probably be for most of today) with bytecode where java wrote the bytecode and matlab read it... I had never worked with bytecode in great detail before so this was quite a challenge. I mean, all in all, the experience was interesting and because it was harder then it should have been, more educational.
Still, I've been told almost every other program reads "low byte first" and thinking about it,...

Hi,
I'm wondering if I can get a reasonably civil (without starting any
huge wars) opinion on how server-side PHP compares to server-side
Java.
I've been strictly a Java developer for almost 10 years now, and I'm
pretty happy with it. However, I can't help but notice that there are
a significant amount of PHP-based development projects where I live,
and I've also noticed when searching around the internet for ready-

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...
