Compile java to bytecode & execute in java runtime?

Hello,

I'm currently working on a little tool that would benefit from having
a little embedded script language. Although I have C++ source code
available for such a script language, I have 2 concerns:

- The capabilities of the C++ script interpreter that I've written are
rather limited (of course I can solve this)

- My little script interpreter was written for readability rather than
speed. As such, I'm afraid that running the script interpreter inside
Java's bytecode interpreter will turn out to be rather slow.

I haven't tried actually porting the interpreter from C++ to Java yet,
instead I'd like to check out what alternatives I have. It might be
far more attractive to be able to compile a chunk of Java to Java
bytecode in Java runtime, and then execute this compiled bytecode. Is
this possible? What other alternatives do I have?

Regards,

John

I'm curious as to how difficult it would be to take a string that contains compiled bytecode, load it into memory, give it a function name then execute that function. I'm thinking of a database that contains compiled objects that I can load and execute. I'm also curious as to what level of grainularity this would work - module, class, class method, function? Anyone tried to do this before? Obviously dependencies are a consideration but I'm...

Hi I am planning to open a software company to develop client-server apps and web applications for my client. Now, i am in a difficult situation to determine what is the best platform i should use to develop the application for my end users. Should I use Java or MS.Net technology or should I mix both of them ? Basically, I have these criteria in mind before I decide which platform I should adopt : 1. Ease of use - which one is easy to...

Dear sirs, I'm doing some investigations on the Python language. I'd like to know if it is possible to compile Python code made for the web (an online database for instance), and to run it using mod_python. How is it possible? I think it would be very fast to execute the code if it were compiled. Thanks, --

I think you would agree with me that a C compiler that directly produces Java Byte Code to be run on any JVM is something that is missing to software programmers so far. With such a tool one could stay with C and still be able to produce Java byte code for platform independent apps. Also, old programs (with some tweaking) could be re-compiled and ported to the JVM. We have been developing such a tool over the last 2 years and currently...

I've got a fairly substantial webapp written in Java (plus Tomcat, Hibernate, Struts, JSP, MySQL) that is a bit of a bear to work with. I didn't write it. Much of it is only very sparsely documented (if at all). No design docs anywhere. It's a large webapp with many classes and fairly deep inheritance hierarchies. There seems to be JUnit test cases in place. The possibility of re-writing it has come up, and I must say that, although it...

Hello all, The following is a copy of a blog entry. It's asking a question about future statements and the built in compile function. I'd appreciate any pointers or comments about possible approaches. `Movable Python <http://www.voidspace.org.uk/python/movpy/>`_ supports running both Python scripts and ``.pyc`` bytecode files. It does this by compiling scripts to bytecode, or extracting the code object from bytecode files, and then...

With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies.
