Looking for a good open-source application or starter kit.

My needs are relatively simple. I'm putting together a web site
prototype that has some very minimal e-commerce type stuff. I've been
away from asp.net for a little while.

It's not a store, so I'm not looking for that specific functionality.
It will include to facility to maintain a product list.

I'm looking for a starter kit that will hande users in different
roles, and allow them self-service to maintain their contact
information and passwords.

I'm looking at dashCommerce right now, but I'm having some issues and
it hasn't won me over yet. I've previously used the CSK, which was ok
for a while, but too complicated.

I'm not looking for a lot of features or a long learning curve, just
something solid that can look decent without a lot of work.

Check out www.dotshoppingcart.com. I like it better than dashCommerce
because it doesn't use SubSonic. I prefer the old stored procedure approach
myself, which makes dotshoppingcart more attractive for my tastes. The open
source version is on a link in the right-hand column of their home page.
Really nice stuff!

Hope this helps,
Mark Fitzpatrick

Any progammers looking for a killer app to develop? How about a voice enabled forum? One of the most powerful, exciting, and engrossing experiences on the Internet is the Forum. The first great Internet forums were the Usenet newsgroups. Usenet is still a powerful force, but many different types of forums are also very popular (such as message boards like Vbulliten and XMBforum). I love forums. Love em love em love em. My web site...

Looking for a tool that can edit an XML file in a browser. The basic requirement is that the XML file is rendered as an HTML form with editable fields (including add/delete, preferably in accordance with with the document's XSD/DTD or other schema definition). I don't mind the actual form of this tool - could be implemented as a JSP/Servlet, ASP component, or browser plug-in for local or remote XML file access. Alternatively, it doesn't...

Hello. I'm looking for a good C++ reference book. I learned C++ a year ago. It is very broad and I need something to refer to. Particularly about syntax (using -> versus ".", etc.), using classes, C++ functions, etc. Basically, a good overall C++ language reference. I need a reference book. Not a "begin from scratch" instruction book, unless there is one that is also a good reference. Also, does anyone know of any good standard...

I didn't know what group to post this in... I'm looking for a good hex editor. One that would permit me to view two files at the same time and as I move the position in one it would also move it in the other. I'm trying to compare the position location of two files.

Greetings, I'm looking for any books that the members of this group may have to recommend for C#. I have experience with a number of programming languages (probably most relevant would have to be Java), and have already read 'C# for Java Developers' from Microsoft Press. I feel as though I have a decent understanding of C# now, but am interested in taking it to the next level. In particular, a book with good examples is what I'm...

I am looking for a good third party tool activex component that will allow the user to open a pdf file, view the pdf file, ENTER DATA INTO PDF FORM FIELDS, save the pdf file to disk WITH THE DATA, or EXTRACT the data entered from each pdf form field programmatically. I have looked at a few: ISedQuickPDF, Gnostice's pdfToolKit, and a couple of others. The problem is mostly that few toolkits allow the edit of the pdf form fields and the...

Hi, my name is Mark Linehan. About 20 years ago or so I started learning how to program on the Commodore 64 computer (anyone remember those?) heheheh. I taught myself basic on this little machine to the point that there was nothing I could not do in basic on the 64 and started learning assembly language on it. I moved up to the Amiga, and dabbled in C. Then moved to an IBM 386. At that time I literally knew plain old MS-DOS version(s) of...

I am looking for Access reporting add-in that would be easy to use by end users. My key focus is on selection criteria. I am very happy with the Access report writer capabilities. As far as development of reports, it is certainly fine in my book. But for end-users, with little experience or training, it would be nice to have an easy way to handle various selection criteria, perhaps with relatively stock reports. I see easy to use by...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
