Google Groups Advanced Search no longer works

Has anyone noticed that the Google Groups Advanced Search no longer
works correctly? Is it something I'm doing or have others noticed the
change?

Used to be, if I put *access* in the Groups filter, I got groups with the
word
"access" in the name. No longer. Used to be, if I selected "English" as
the
language, I didn't get non-english posts. No longer. What's up with that?
Anyone else notice this?

Bothe are working just fine for me, and I did a couple of searches
yesterday that worked fine, too.

David, thanks for the reply. I'm trying it from a different computer, on a
different
network, and I'm not getting such wild results, but still not quite right.
See the
screen shots below with my advanced search, and the results.

They changed something over there at Google, of that I'm certain.

Are you all logging in to do searches? I never do that.

Can someone post the query string that's giving problems?

Oh, and have you tried a decent browser?
I use Firefox, but I fail to see how the browser can cause a search to return
the wrong results. I searched for access groups and the results had more posts
from non-access groups than it did from access groups. And no, I never log in
either. This was from the advanced group search page.

Others have recently reported no results being returned that were more than a
couple years old when doing searches.

I don't think the phonetic similarity between "access" and "alt.sex"
is just a coincidence...

Well, the funny thing is, I first started noticing this after having
installed FireFox.
I wasn't using it at the time, but it crossed my mind. I dismissed it,
since I agree
with Rick that it shouldn't matter what browser you use.

I thought that perhaps they started including the group's description in the
search.
That would broaden the results in an unpredictable way.

I've hacked together a 'GoogleCacheServer'. It is based on SimpleHTTPServer. Run the following script (hopefully google groups won't mangle the indentation) and set your browser proxy settings to 'localhost:8000'. It will let you browse the internet using google's cache. Obviously you'll miss images, javascript, css files, etc. See the world as google sees it ! (This is actually an 'inventive' short term measure to get round a...

Hello guys, I've been building a search facility for an intranet site I'm part of developing and we've been building a search engine using Index Server. It mostly works, however there have been a few niggling problems and fixing it seems to be a case of patching errors as we find them so I'm thinking that it might be worth starting the logic from scratch and rebuilding this again. Basically we have a simple search, which is simply a...

Does anyone know of a good place to search for Usenet news? I used to use groups.google but that's become more and more corrupt with Google-only and Corporate-posting-only Groups over the past few years. Do a search on "no.flash websites" for example. The first 6+ hits are from Adobe's corporate macromedia "discussion" groups and all appear to be moderated to insure that no flash-critical post goes unchallenged. I'd be surprised if...

Back some time ago I was playing with a little app in VB 2005 that used a google web service to get search results. I was rebuilding this app in 2008 today. I added the web service http://api.google.com/googlesearch.wsdl and then down in the code I was typing Dim myGoogle As New Google.GoogleSearchService only to find GoogleSearchService was no longer a method. I looked on google for documentation and it appears they no longer offer...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers.
