The FAQ re Google

<FAQENTRY>

Google is sufficiently pervasive nowadays that, ISTM, we should have two
Google subsections (2.x, 2.y) - rough first draft :-

2.x Search Engines and the Web.
-------------------------------
Many Web sites dealing with Javascript can be found by searching with
search engines such as Google, AltaVista, etc. Be aware that the
material presented in "collection s" sites is of very varying age and
quality; and that code found in actual use on the Web can be even worse.
2.x Google Groups.
------------------
Newsgroups are much older; traditional interface is better.
<Transfer or cite Section 2.11 (Archives)>

<To 2.3>When continuing a discussion, don't start a new thread.

<From 2.3If posting through <a href="groups.go ogle.com"Google </a>
don't use the "Reply" link at the bottom of the article; instead, use
"Show Options" at the top of the article and then click the "Reply"
option exposed there. This automatically includes the quote of the
preceding message to be edited down as described ... .

In FAQ 3.2, I see
Microsoft's Windows Scripting Host Newsgroup:-
http://groups.google.com/group/micro....scripting.wsh
It's a newsgroup; the prime reference should be
(a) news:microsoft. public.scriptin g.wsh
(b) news:<Microsoft 's server>microsof t.public.script ing.wsh
with Google as a poor third. Cf. FAQ 2.2 para 4.

You may also wish to include a link to my "Javascript Knowledge Base Search"
page at
http://www.javascripttoolbox.com/search/
since it is an easy and quick way to search many sites and post authors
commonly recommended in this group.

I've hacked together a 'GoogleCacheServer'. It is based on SimpleHTTPServer. Run the following script (hopefully google groups won't mangle the indentation) and set your browser proxy settings to 'localhost:8000'. It will let you browse the internet using google's cache. Obviously you'll miss images, javascript, css files, etc. See the world as google sees it ! (This is actually an 'inventive' short term measure to get round a...

Hello guys, I've been building a search facility for an intranet site I'm part of developing and we've been building a search engine using Index Server. It mostly works, however there have been a few niggling problems and fixing it seems to be a case of patching errors as we find them so I'm thinking that it might be worth starting the logic from scratch and rebuilding this again. Basically we have a simple search, which is simply a...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
