Access 2003 - Exclusive Access

Hi all
When I used Access 97, I could edit reports and forms whilst other users had it open, the only problem was that the users had to close and reopen a form or report to see the form/report in it's new, edited state.

With Access 2003 I cannot do that as if anyone has got the database open I get this message
You do not have exclusive access to the database. Your design changes cannot be saved at this time.
.

Is there anyway to avoid this?

This is a safety measure that has been introduced to reduce corruption of databases. Always work on a separate copy of the database to the live version.

Thanks Mary

I understand that was the reason for it's introduction, however in regards to Reports based on Queries, it was never a problem as the other users were only using the forms feature and would never edit either the query or the report.

Is there any way around it as it's not very practicle to copy the database every time I want to make a minor change? I have 10 other people all using the database form and they all have to close while I replace the old database with the new copy just to make a change to one report.

Oh well, thanks anyway.

I should have stayed with Access 97, the upgrade has just made my job more difficult.

If anyone knows of a way around this I would really appreciate it.

When the application is opened by someone, it seems that if one of the Adobe 7.0 (Standard or Professional) users susequently open the application, they get the error - "...You do not have exclusive permissions to the database. I have inherited a bunch of dbs which are are shared among a small group in my dept. We typically use the dbs to write queries to extract data, usually dumping it into Excel. Most dbs originated in MsAccess 97 or prior and have been converted to 2003. On occassion user 1 will open a db. When user 2 opens the db it will not let user 2 modify macros and what not. I can understand this and realize we could split the db; it is not worth ...

Hi there I'm currently creating a program (VB .Net 2003) in which I can create MS Access databases. It took me a while to figure out how to create such databases, but I'm still missing a few options which MS Access support:s: 1. Opening a database readonly from 2. Opening a database in exclusive mode 3. Encrypting and decrypting a database

hi Folks, I am opening my access database file (Access 2003) from a C# application. The connection string specifies mode=Share Exclusive The intent is that the application have exclusive access to the database file. No other instance of MS Access or this particular C# application (or any other app) should be able to open the access database file concurrently.

Hello everyone. Your help is very much appreciated. I am using MS ACCESS 2003. I am trying to create partial replica from the design master. it all goes well until I try to set the filter using: repPartial.Filters.Append "Customers",jrFilterTypeTable,"Customers.Region = 'CA' " It throws an error: "Invalid expression in the ReplicaFilter property". The replica db, does contain "Customers" table, which has "Region" field.

Hi, All of a sudden one of our clients can't use her application. She gets "You don't have exclusive access to your database at this time" when trying to open our application. The only thing she did today, according to her, was to download and install an Avery label wizard. She has rebooted and there are no other versions of Access running.

I recently updated one of my clients from Access 97 front-end to Access 2003. (Database still in 97 format). They have about 5 networked PCs. On one of these PCs only, the user gets a warning message when logging in: 'you do not have exclusive access to the database at this time ... may not be able to save changes'. The message keeps on reappearing. If he hits ok about 30 times, it eventually goes away. Can someone help?

I'm unable to to open a linked table T that is stored in an Access 2.0 MDB database file (shared/back-end,) using both Access 2.0 and Access 2003, in the same time. Here is the scenario: 1- Start Access 2.0 and open the linked table T. 2- Start Access 2003 then try to open the same linked table T. 3- You may get the error "Could not use <.mdb file name>; file already in use."

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
