Hi all,
I'm trying to connect to an MS Access database using ADO.NET and C#, but I'm
getting the dreaded "Microsoft Jet database engine cannot open the file 'x'.
It is already opened exclusively by another user, or you need permission to
view its data."
Any ideas as to why? I set up a connection using Jet 4.0 and I'm able to
open the database from within VC#.

I'm using a third party hosting service. I presently have a Web Service on
this hosting service's server that loads and executes a native mode DLL.
This demonstrates that the hosting service has given me proper access to the
temporary directory c:/Windows/Microsoft.NET/Framework/V1.1.4322/Temporary
ASP.NET Files/root/...."
I believe it also demonstrates that I have access to c:/documents and

I'm working on an application in Access 2002, and every time I'm done making
changes in the VBA project, the database is noticeably larger after
compacting, even when code changes are small or even if they involve removing
more code than I add.
In the past, I've usually been able to recover space in these situations by
decompiling the front-end, but in this case, after I decompile, compact,
recompile, and compact again, the database has...

I am using MSAccess 2003 as my DB, ASP page my front end. My access file is
in the temp folder which ahs IUSR_Machine permissions. My asp page works
fine, connects to DB and retrieves what I want. Now, when I open my db file
in Microsoft Access in Exclusive mode my ASP page doest establish a
connection which is correct as exclusive open locks the files and prevents
further connections. Upto here no problem.
Now when I close that...

We have a small website using Visual basic and ASP.NET. We hold a database
in Access format which is opened with the following 3 lines
Dim m_dataBase As String = "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0; Data
Source=C:\callidusWorld\app_data\webAccess.mdb"
Dim myConn As New OleDbConnection(m_dataBase)
myConn.Open()
most of the time this works as expected but every now and then it seems
unable to open the database and throws an exception.

I've got an access97 reporting mdb that pulls data (77,000 rows) from a
sql server table into a local table to run reports
if the local table is part of the reporting MDB, the insert statement
(16 fields) takes less than 30secs, but because of db-bloat, I moved
the local table to a 2nd MDB
and per postings, this 2nd MDB is copied into a folder and linked as a
'temp' MDB every time I run my reporting mdb

I have the project that may never end in front of me.
I am creating a routine that will take SpreadSheets from Excel and
bring them into Access.
I am not using any "DoCmd"s because the goal is for the import code
to be moved to a stand alone VB app which will use the Access DB as a
workspace to process the data from the spreadsheets. Quite honestly,
done right this may not even require Access or Excel to be on the
users machine. ...

In last week's Tip, I showed you how to use the ISAMStats Method of the DBEngine (DAO) to return vital statistics concerning Query executions such as: Disk Reads and Writes, Cache Reads and Writes, and Locks placed and released. As promised, in this week's Tip I'll demonstrate how to accomplish parallel functionality within the context of ADO using the OpenSchema Method of the Connection Object.
We indicate to the OpenSchema Method that we...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
