Note: I tried cross-posting this message to several newsgoups, including comp.lang.perl.misc, c.l.p.moderated, comp.infosystems.www.authoring.cgi, comp.lang.javascript and comp.lang.php. Nothing appeared on my news server, so I'm trying again - this time posting a separate copy of the message to each group. I'm thinking this should be fairly easy to accomplish - a quick and dirty ... what? ... script? program?

Hi all, I would like to create a quiz show game for play in a party. The physical setup would probably be a big screen where everyone (players and host) can see, which shows a question, and a multiple choice of answer. The player, with a client computer and keyboard in front, will press a key to pick an answer. The client program, will then send the player's choice through the wire to the server program. The server program will...

Hi everyone, Let's see, now. This question is about the capabilities of ANSI C++. I want to write and compile code in ANSI C++ that, when compiled, will make the computer speaker beep; or, at least, SHOULD make the computer speaker beep. I know that whether the computer speaker actually beeps or not is largely dependent on the OS I'm using. But I'm not so much concerned about that (at this stage). I just want to know if ANSI C++...

What I have is a point of sale system which works with a touch screen or scanner (there is no keyboard attached to the computer, but I still can send keystrokes through the application). The main screen (register is plenty of command buttons that sends ascii characters). It has a subform showing the detail of the sale. Every time I scan a bar code I execute an INSERT SQL instruction to add the new Item to the sale. This record is not...

What are the requirements for the MessageBox.Show to work ? I suppose something is missiong on the server as the same...

I am looking into building a C# app that will let the user enter information which will then be formatted and displayed on a separate screen. I guess I could either show the formatted data in a new windows form or in a web browser. The system will be set up on a lap top so the user will be viewing the lap top screen for data entry, but the second window will be shown on a large tv screen. My question is - is there any way to make sure...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies.
