Show Window while Computer is locked

Hello

For a alarm-system in our company i want to show a message-window at the
users screen while some events, even the users computer (Win XP SP 2 in
domain) is locked.

How can i show a window from VB.net while the computer is locked down?

Best regards

Josh

I don't think that's possible - the machine is locked, hence no windows can
be displayed.

If windows could be displayed, that would present a security hazard (i.e.
applications could display sensitive information while locked).

If the machine is locked - who's going to be reading the messages?

A co-worker of mine suggested making a screen saver style application that
should be able to display something while the computer is locked (you'll
have to check ?).

The screen saver though is called by the OS, so you'll still have a period
of time during whihc you can't display anything (depending on the screen
saver settings).

In my cuurent ASP.NET project, a weird thing happens: when I test-run the project and a uncatched run error occurs, VS quits the test-run, as expected. If I try to run the project again (either start it inside VS.NET or directly call the page from IE), I get server error, pointing to "machine.cofg" file at following portion: <compilation ...> <compilers> ... </compilers>

Hi all In my .NET application (maybe run as a service), is there a way to know when my computer is locked? I want to write an app that logs when the computer has started and when it has been shutdown, but also log when the computer was locked. Our system administrator has set our computer to lock automatically after 15 minutes if it's inactive, and I could always lock my computer manually using CTRL+ALT+DLT. Is this possible? Is it...

Hi, Having searched for a way to fetch a window object by name, all I came across were answers along the line of... "All you have to do is say windowObj = window.open("blah", "name");" which isn't very useful if you want to fetch information from an existing document in the window. One solution I came up with was quite simple; open the "new" window, giving you a reference to the object, then use window.history.back() to

Dear all, I am currently strungling with the fact that I want to control the browser closure. In fact, I have a webbased application in which I use a wizard. Ones the wizard starts, a lock is set on specific objects in the db. On all pages of the wizard, the user get the possibility to exit the wizard by clicking on a custom "Exit" button. That way, I know that the user has left the wizard and that way I can unlock the locked objects in...

Is there a way to display the file selection window for a file input field via JavaScript? My goal is to emulate the behavior seen in Yahoo! Mail BETA. When adding an attachment, it displays a file selection window when you click a custom button/icon. I saw an example of using CSS to actually position the browse button behind an image. I am hoping that isn't the only option.

Hi I need to start a GUI application from a console app. Upon startup, the application can display one or two popups, which need clicking away. I have all this handled using FindWindow, GetDLGCtrlID and PostMessage respectively (find window, find control ID of the button that needs pressing, and press the button). However, the software in question will only bring up the popup if it is in the foreground. So I'm using...

I apologize in advance for the length of this posting and will attempt to simplify as much as possible. I have an automation application in MS Access which generates reports in Excel and emails them to appropriate distribution lists. The application's automation is basically a timer which checks the current system time and the next report generation time. For example, Daily Report A has a next generation time of 8:00AM on 1/9/2008. When the...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies.
