XP restarts three times once a day

1 New Member
Hello all,

I've experienced a problem that I hadn't seen never before on any XP machines.

I had a computer where windows 2000 was installed, after a disk format (quick format within Windows XP installation) I installed a fresh XP. It has the SP 3, including all updates, checked with some antivirus, now AVG is on it.

Applications like office/browsers/games work all like a charm. From some time ago, the next situation happens every day now once:
The XP logo is on when the OS is loading. When it's "loaded" and the logo goes off, after the black screen the logon screen should appear. Well, firstly it just restarts the pc. Next time it shows that windows wasn't shut down properly etc.. with all those options to login in safe mode etc.. Now when I chooose normal mode, now after the black screen the login screen comes, voila, finally. Now, when I choose any of two profiles that are created, the system just restarts itself again, and XP shows the not proper shutdown again. This happens again third time, after that everything works well.
Now, after those restarts, when I just turn the pc off and turn back on, it loads and starts properly without any restarts.

This happens EVERY DAY once, after that how many times I restart myself the XP, or just turn the pc off then on, I'm not able to reproduce the problem but the other day again...

Please, if you have any idea what it may cause, let me know. I saved a hijackthis log, even checked the ntbootlog, but I'm not able to identify the problem. In the event viewer there's no signs of errors/special lines that would indicate something goes wrong..

I also have to mention that I already tried to reinstall every piece of driver, with complete uninstall/clear. And this problem never happened with windows 2000, in xp also it didnt happen when it was freshly installed, it just did from some time ago.

The pc was bought as a whole piece. It's a standard Celeron 2.6 GHz, with 512 MB RAM, Asrock P4VM800 MB, AMD X1050 graphic card with 128 MB, PS/2 keyborad and mouse, a USB printer and USB webcam is connected (already tried with these when not connected, didn't help).

I must also tell you, when after first restart I choose safe mode, it never restarts again that day but the other again..

w2k server... after rebooting the event viewer/application log shows multiple restarts of Active Server Pages and they continue to build in memory as each start produces a IWAM_SERVERNAME in the task manager. there might be 10 - 20 starts without a stop... when I restart iis services it takes a long time as each started service is stopped and the associated IWAM_SERVERNAME is closed. this seems to be something new and when checking...

I'm trying to insert data for a real-time application that demands less than 3 second receipt-to-commit time, has a relatively large (500,000 records/hr) data rate, and requires access times on the order of 10-15 seconds. We're storing about 24 hours worth of data on a rolling basis, so I've partitioned the table by hour. Three of the columns are (separately) indexed. I know I can do this by piping data through sqlldr into the live...

I have C++ Primer Third Edition -- Author Stanley B. Lippman and Josee Lajoie. I have been studying it for couple months however it does not provide a valuable information which it is about "friend to class". I am very disappointed because it is the way how C++ Compiler is designed. I assume that "friend to class" is not the good option. If CMain class is initialized before CA class, CB class, and CC class are initialized inside CMain...

Hi, I'm creating temporary directories in my web app (e.g. ~/data/temp/temp123) to allow users to upload files. When I later delete these directories (from the code behind), the application restarts and all active sessions are terminated. This error is also described in detail here:...

About a month ago, Windows XP began restarting automatically on *every* shutdown. I have to wait until shutdown is complete and turn off the power supply to keep it shut down or it just restarts. Some have suggested it is related to USB devices. I have not added any new USB devices. The only thing I did recently was direct connect USB devices to the PC instead if a USB hub. I reconnected to the hub and it still restarts. I had no such...

Hello, I created a report in Acess2000 and now it repeats itself three times. At first I thought its a problem with the page margins but that would mean that empty or almost empty pages would follow the initial report! In my case the whole report repeats itself completely. I hope that someone can help me on that cheers

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
