Do you have a wired network available you could try? Also, if you have access to another computer that does have internet (use a library connection if you don't own another computer), Google for your distro and wireless card to try and see if others are having similar problems. Two computers means you can Google while you tinker/test, though you can do it in a dual-boot setup.

I agree with Laharl, what type of networking are you doing? Wired or Wireless? If its wireless, what type of wireless card are you using?

In the future, if you didn't want to necessarily dual boot, you could run Linux under windows using something like VMWare or Virtual Box.

OK, I'm trying to understand your question, and this is what I'm guessing:
You have a Laptop, which came with Windows preinstalled. Now, you also want to run Linux (Ubuntu) on it. You installed it as a dual boot system, but now the network connection (probably wireless) won't work, correct?

If so, we'll have to know what wireless device (normally either built in to the Laptop, so we'll need the model name and number of that, or external, e.g. a PCMCIA or USB device) you're trying to use, what encryption the wireless network has (just "none", "WEP" or "WPA" and a few more descriptive words will do fine, you shouldn't post any information about your password or -phrase) and possibly how you connect under Windows.

This will probably be a Linux issue, but we'll just wait an see.

Oh, if you should want to install Ubuntu within Windows, the LiveCD will offer you that possibility via something called Wubi. No need for VMWare or VirtualPC. ^^

Greetings,
Nepomuk

Hi, I've been using FB1.5 and access the database using Kinterbasdb + Python. My connection is established using kinterbasdb.connect() method and the parameters host, dns, database, user, password are all defaulted to 'None'. On my own machine running Mac OSX 10.3, I can connect using the following: host = 'localhost' database = '<my path to FB database>'

Situation: I have to connect with my Windows 2000 server using VS.NET 2003 and C# and connect to a remote Linux server at another company's office and query their XML file. Their file may be updated every hour or so. How can I do this easily? I would like to use secure communication even encryption if possible. I would query and insert locally only the newest records found in that XML file to an xml or MS access db.

First of all, I'm an Asian and I need to input Japanese, Korean and so on. I've tried many PHP IDEs today, but almost non of them supported Unicode (UTF-8) file. I've found that the only Unicode support IDEs are DreamWeaver 8 and Zend PHP Studio. DreamWeaver provides full support for Unicode. However, DreamWeaver is a web editor rather than a PHP IDE. It only supports basic IntelliSense (or code completion) and doesn't have anything...

So the title pretty much says it. I am attempting to switch to Linux but the printer attached to my machine must still be accessible by my wife who uses Windows. Alternatively attaching the printer to my wife's machine and accessing a printer on a Windows machine from Linux machine would work for us to if that is possible and the first option isn't.

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
