Hi,
First tip is to run msconfig (start run then type msconfig), when it opens go the the startup tab and stop stuff loading up that you don't need.
Next run defrag, scan disk and run a virus check.
All these utils are helpful in improving ur PC's performance.

You could restart explorer on the fly, by pressing Ctrl+Alt+DEL, and ending explorer, then in the task manager clicking file "new task" then typing in explorer.

But windows is very memory hungry especially if you use dodgy freeware off the net.

Hi I have a made a script that process normals for a flat shaded 3D mesh's. It compares every vert with every other vert to look for verts that can share normals and It takes ages. I'm not asking anyone to rewrite the script- just have a look for any stupid errors that might be sucking up time.

I've setup a very simple page which allows a group of users to start a procedure in Oracle from an ASP page (relevant code copied below). I was led to believe that the processing job was fairly quick and would only take a minute to complete. However to my disappointment, having only built and deployed the page a few days ago, I've already had a call from one of the users who tells me that its just timed out on them (timeout currently...

Hi, Every morning around 11am, we run out of database connections. We have one user, and a bunch of scripts that use that account to connect to the database. I believe we have a bad script out there that's routinely chewing up our available connections. I plan on turning on as much logging as possible tonight. Are there any other tools out there that can help me figure out exactly which script is generating the connections?

Hello Gentlemen, I have a table which is the highest level table in my DB design...ie...all tables have foreign keys that if the chain is followed, lead to this table. This table had quite a few indexes (8) as well, however we have balanced the issue of SELECT performance to INSERT performance and we have internaly justified each indexe and removed some redundant ones.

Hi, I've to migrate an existing code in asp to asp.Net. The asp code uses ServerXMLHTTP to call some services. Same thing will be done using HttpWebRequest in the asp.Net code. The problem is keeping everything same HttpWebRequest takes around 100-200ms more than ServerXMLHTTP to call the service. The bottleneck was HttpWebRequest.GetResponse, which was taking most of time. Once I set the ContentLength for HttpWebRequest object it

Hi I suppose, that my problem is of interest to many readers: While long time task (i.e reading a remote Pc's WMI), a user should see either the progressbar or "a DIV history log" such as "Now enumerate softwares...". That must be shown in the same aspx page where the user started the heavy task. The popups or other pages are not allowed.

In VB.net, I'm trying to do a couple of things in a couple of different blocks of code. I need to take the first 25 characters of a text file, then append at the end some ellipses and a MORE link to a webpage where viewers can read the rest of the article: This is the first few characters of text from my file.......<a href="article-to-read.aspx"> MORE </a> ...I also need to do some in file parsing where I start at one known keyword (START...

I am applying for my first jobs after completing my PhD. I have been asked by a company to go and take a C programming test to see how my C skills are. Apparantly this test is mostly finding errors in small snippets of code but I was wondering if anyone could give me tips on what kind of things I should be looking out for. The one area I dont feel confident in is how to declare arrays of pointers and initialising multi-dimensional arrays....

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
