Windows XP Pro loading problem

Hi guys here is the problem,

When I startup my DELL 600m laptop and get to the login screen and put in the password windows starts loading the profile and then hangs with the command prompt window in the background:
(c:\windows\sys tem32\userinit. exe)

and the following error in the front window:
16 bit MS-DoS Subsystem
c:\windows\syst em32\userinit.e xe
The NTVDM CPU has encoutered an illegal instruction.
CS:0db7 IP:01b1 OP:ff ff ff ff ff Choose 'Close' to terminate the application.

If I choose to close it will close both windows and leave me with the blank desktop, If I choose to Ignore it will do the same.

I have tried using a different username, tried going into safe mode as admin, tried restoring by opening the windows restore through run command but all unsuccessful. Next I will try to replace the system 32 files that are failing by using a usb drive.

Any ideas on how to fix this or what may have caused this would be much appreciated.

kind regards,
Cyberdyne.

Could be c:\windows\syst em32\userinit.e xe got corrupted or one of the WOW files in that directory. I can't imagine that anything 16 bit DOS is required on an out-of-the-box system, though. Do you have some ancient software installed on this machine?

Yep, userinit.exe was corrupted and I had to rebuild the registry for WMI components.

Safe mode did not work as I mentioned earlier.

I had a problem with userinit.exe , I could find I simple way to solve it :

- userinit.exe was deleted my mistake ; then XP Pro SP2 couldn't Log in any user !

- I've copied from XP Home SP2 userinit.exe on USB stick

-I have booted from XP CD using Recovey Console (typing R)

-Copy userinit.exe to C:WINDOWS\Syste m32\

My XP could start without problems.

I have a need to become familiar with SQL Server 2000 for work. Needless to say I am new to SQL Server any version, but not IT in general. My employer has provided me with the SQL Server 2000 Personal disk from the SQL Server 2000 Enterprise kit as this is reported here on the MSDN web site to be the version that is supported on Windows XP. In fact so many of you kind people confess to having succeeded in doing it. I have tried...

Every once in a while (especially when I visit suspect web sites :), every single window on my Microsoft Windows XP & Microsoft Windows 2000 operating systems goes haywire. All the windows (every single one) shake, quiver, & shiver about. For example, if I use Netscape to pull down a menu item, that pull-down menu quivers and shakes and shivers. If I use Eudora to read email, not only does the main Eudora window shake, shiver, and...

Hi Everyone, I am having some difficulty in using the Windows Resource Localization Editor (WinRes.exe) on several Visual Basic .NET forms (.resx files) in two different projects. The editor gives an error when loading the .resx files. When attempting to load a .resx file using WinRes under Visual Studio .NET 2003, the following error is displayed in the client area of the editor: "An error occurred while loading the document. Hello I am experiencing extremely long time for loading a windows form in my Visual C++ .NET project This Windows form has just 40 labels, 4 checkBoxes, 2 buttons and 11 numericUpDown. It takes several minutes to load this form in the form designer when I double click on the . file in the Visual Studio .NET Solution Explorer. It gets worse with another form that has more controls. It gets really dramatic when I try to compile in...

I thought that I had read somewhere before about a limit to the number of DLL's that could be loaded by a 32 bit application when it is run on Windows 98/ME operating systems. But I can't seem to find the document in MSDN. Our application uses Crystal Reports 9 and we have issues on 98 SE and ME that seem to be dependent on the number of DLL's that are currently loaded by the application.

Hello, I wanted to get some light in the subject. As I develop ASP.NET applications, it's necessary to understand how exactly the server- communication happens. It seems like initially application is "sleeping", and it is not loaded in the memory. Then, after very first request to the app, it is compiled (aspx files), loaded into memory, and executed. Then, a separate thread is issued to serve my page request, and it takes care for me...

Hi, I've been having a problem with C++ Windows Forms apps not "ending" when you close the form window. I've searched about this problem all over the place and most searches have lead me to believe that this has to do with unreleased form component events or event handlers. I'm comparatively new to .net and windows forms, in the sense that though I've been using them for over 2 years now, it's been rather sporadic. I work with...

All the usual Newbie stuff applies... I have a Windows2000 Server with ActivePerl and a module (DBD-Interbase) that worked fine. Trying to duplicate the environment on Windows2003 Server for future upgrade, and this module won't work (other Perl scripts in IIS6 are OK, just not this Interbase module, which is critical). The error comes from Dynaloader.pm file, which I've read through, and it says that it's a generic message about external...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
