Network Device Discovery

I am looking to incorporate network device discovery into a Help Desk
application that I am building.
As I have never done this before, I am looking for some help.

Can anyone share any web site resources that can point me in the right
direction or a snippet of code?

Thank you.

Hi, is there any way to programmatically limit the network traffic received on a network adapter in C# ? I need to simulate different speeds over an ADSL connection and run tests covering speed limits from 1Mbps to 8Mbps on a single machine. So far I found a shareware (NetLimiter) that pretty much covers my needs, but I'd rather find a programming solution I could include in my testscripts.

Ive been experimenting with ways to discover computers on the network. Most of what I have tried is centered around looping through our network address ranges to discover the names of the computers up and running on the network. I have tried this using UDP sent to port 136 and retrieving the name of the machine. I have also attempted doing this using WMI. The problem I had with UDP is that it isnt reliable, and can be quite

Enable and Disable in the Network and DialUp Connections manager is actually setting a bit in the registry for the target adapter and then calling NDIS to unbind or bind (depending on whether your disabling or enabling the adapter). In HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\NdisPower insert this value to disable the adapter: <adapterNameREG_DWORD 4 (0x00000004)

Hi, I have a windows application, written in delphi, that communicates to our devices using raw ethernet frames. I am trying to port this application to linux using python. However, when I try to open a socket, I get this error: File "/home/tbrown/projects/discovery/trunk/comm.py", line 9, in __init__ self.s = socket(AF_PACKET, SOCK_RAW, proto) File "/usr/local/lib/python2.5/socket.py", line 156, in __init__ _sock =...

Local Area Network (LAN) Both an EtherNet (wire) network and a wireless network are referred to as a Local Area Network (LAN). A wireless network does not require hubs, switchers, or routers to include additional users on the network. Additional wireless users are supported just by being in the immediate physical span of the network. A wireless LAN (or Wi-Fi network) may be configured in two different ways:

My application should periodically connect to multiple network drives to see if the certain files were created. I would do this to retrieve the list of files in UNC path //server1/backup/: ---------------------------------- Folder = "//server1/backup/" Dim listoffiles As New List(Of System.IO.FileInfo) listoffiles.AddRange(New System.IO.DirectoryInfo(Folder).GetFiles()) ----------------------------------

In Device Manager under Network Adapters, nearly all (about 20) items have a yellow warning symbol. The first item, Microsoft 6to4 Adapter says driver is up-to-date BUT says "This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for their device (Code 31). Similar message in all other 20 items under network adapters. Have checked for solutions - send data to Micosoft- but so far no solutions. Any help please?...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
