Local Area Network (LAN)
Both an EtherNet (wire) network and a wireless network are referred to
as a Local Area Network (LAN). A wireless network does not require
hubs, switchers, or routers to include additional users on the
network. Additional wireless users are supported just by being in the
immediate physical span of the network.
A wireless LAN (or Wi-Fi network) may be configured in two different
ways:
Ad Hoc mode: Allows only for communication between different personal
computers and wireless devices, often referred to as peer-to-peer
communication.
Infrastructure mode: Required for communication with the World Wide
Web, a printer, or a wired device of any sort. In either case, this
wireless connection requires a wireless network adaptor, often called

An ethernet LAN des not require hubs routers or switches either.

Ditto ethernet, but I doubt yu can remember back that far..

This is not accurate. Your wireless access point is, in fact, a hub or
switch. A wireless access point supports a specific number of concurrent
connections... either based on licensing or, at the very least, the
capacity of the ARP table.

Hi, I am making a simple backup program where the files selected can be
transfered from a source to a destination. The source/destination could be
inside user's own PC or a different PC within a local network.
I have tried to use File.Copy and it seems to work fine, but I need to show
a progress while copying the file (very large file) and better, can resume
from the point it break. File.Copy doesn't seem to support those two
features....

However, I can't find a way to create a new website in XP Professional, only subwebs. Also, I can't seem to get https to work with
the IIS on my laptop too.

I have a split front end/back end system. However I create a number of
local tables to carry out certain operations. There is a tendency for
the front end to bloat so I have set 'compact on close'
I think that I have read in some threads (althoug I cannot find them

My application has been split and the front end runs on client PCs with the
back end on a LAN file server. Also I have an updater routine that copies
an updated client from the LAN file server to the client PCs when needed. I
keep the client front end on the LAN server for distribution purposes. The
problem is that occasionally, user's get confused and go to the LAN file
server and run the application from the front end...
