Okay, I assume I'm missing something obvious here. I have created a simple
service in C# that on starting spawns a thread to do some processing. The
service can be stopped with a "net stop" command of course, but under some
circumstances the service will decide to terminate itself. My OnStart looks
something like this:
protected override void OnStart(string args)
{
serviceThread = new Thread(new ThreadStart(ServiceThreadStart));...

Hi,
I am writing a service which takes a long time to stop after the OnStop
call is given by the Services Snap-in. The problem is I cannot cut down on
the time that it takes to Stop. The Service snap-in gives me the error
saying that the service did not respond to the Stop call in a timely
fashion. So is there any method by which I can get around this problem.
Thanks
Prasad

HI,
I've an asp.net page which has a button. On click of the button the program
queries the database and gets the result and displays the same.Now assume
that my program takes 2 minutes to get the results.In the mean time if the
user press Esc button to stop the process. The page will stop processing but
my database connection will be trying to retrieve the records. How to solve
this ??? Thanks in Adavance.

I have a Queue that contains filenames.
I have a System.Timer with it's interval set to 200.
I load the Queue up with 35.000 files. I start the Timer.
On Timer.Elapsed I take a file from the Queue (.dequeue) and do my business
logic on it.
I use a Windows Forms to control all this. Start button to start the timer
and a Stop button to stop the timer.

What would be the sample code to stop processing any further requests in
Application_onStart within global.asax has failed? Response.End does not
work since there is no response object at the point of initializion.

Can somebody explain to me why my process continues to run after I halt
execution? This plays havoc with debugging. I expect to be starting a new
instance at the beginning of a loop and the first break point hit is
thousands of itterations into the process (from a previous instance). I get
a very random step behavior. Know I am watching a database continue to be
updated 10 minutes after I stopped the front-end process. I have to stop IIS...

This program is used to send files to an ftp server at 2:00am each day.
At the very top of my program I dim a new instance of a com FTP
control. I have a processing sub which calls a login function which runs
the ftp controls login method and verifies it got logged in. The
processing sub then calls a remote directory function. The remote
directory function calls the com controls method to open the directory
for a remote directory listing...

Hi,
I am in a mouseup event for button A and I'd like to disable=false button B
before starting some work. Is there anyway that an event for button B can
then fire before my event processing for button A's mouseup has completed?
I beleive event processing to be single-threaded for good reason but I need
a "stop" button and it's no good if it doesn't do anything until the other
processing has finished :-)

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...
