VB .NET version for creating Windows Services

Bob
Hello,
I am trying to find out which version of VB .NET we need to buy in
order to create Windows (NT) Service as shown in this helpful article
http://www.developerfusion.com/show/3441/1
We emailed Microsoft and got back a very ambiguous return email which
suggested we purchase Visual Studio 2003 Professional but also seemed
to say in a seperate attached document that it could be done in
standard VB .NET - leaving me none the wiser.
I'm hoping to only purchase standard VB .NET as we don't really have
much use for the other languages that come in the studio edition.
Thanks,
Bob.

I might be wrong here. I just had a look at the Help screens and it says

"Note The Windows Service template and associated functionality is not
available in the Standard Edition of Visual Basic and Visual C# .NET. For
more information, see Visual Basic Standard Edition Features or Visual C#
Standard Edition Features."

Thanks, I've decided the only way to tell for certain to find someone
with standard VB .NET and try create a service using it. It certainly
seems from all the offical Micrsoft documentation that you need studio
but I keep hearing from different place that you may only need standard
- it's all very strange.

Thanks for your help!

and if anyone has standard VB .NET out there please have a look to see
if you can created a Windows Service and let me know. Thanks!!!

Cheers,

Bob

I have a transaction log file where the DataSet table's Description column is actually delimited into "subcolumns" based upon the transaction id. I would like to parse these into separate fields for reporting purposes and am wondering if anyone knows if this is easily accomplished using the .NET version of Crystal Reports? For example, the description column may be reporting on a dataentry error as follows: TXNCODE: 1010001

I need to create a windows application (using C#) that creates/assigns and retrieves database roles on Analysis Services. While I can get the users from the "Members" table on SQL Server, I am having a problem in creating roles for these same users on Analysis Services (giving them access to cubes). I was able to assign roles using DSO when this was a web application. But since this needs to be a windows application, is there anything...

Never mind what they tell you. Just installed 2.0 beta and no more 1.1. Tried to run simple ASP app and doesn't work anymore. Ran aspnet_regiss -i but to no avail. So anyone who tells you they run side by side needs to be put in the stocks with the spammers. No I can only hope that a system restore will fix this. Lloyd Sheen

I have a number of web sites on my 2003 server, each of the independent sites (i.e., not subdirectories of the localhost site). The way I have always set these up in the past is: 1. Create a directory "MySiteName" and a subdirectory "Site". 2. Share the "Site" subdirectory is "MySiteNameSite$", and give the local administrators group full access to the share. (The login I run under is a member of that group.)

I am having trouble creating a web site on a server running sharepoint services. I am creating an ASP.Net website using Visual Studio 2005. The server I am trying to create it on is a Windows 2003 server. From what I understand I need to exclude in sharepoint services the folder where the application will be deployed. I have done this in the Define Managed Paths section of the Sharepoint management site, but it has no effect. Even after...

we just ordered VS 2005 standard edition. i was reading up on creating windows services and apparently this is only possible with the enterprise edition. is this true, or does it simply mean there's no template for windows services with the standard edition? are there VS templates published by 3rd parties i can download to ease implementation? tks

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
