Setting maximum number of merge agents

Jim
I have a situation with a 6 server setup whereby merge agents
will not run if other merge agents are alreay running. Basically
we have a 5 laptop, one tower config with the tower being the
publisher. In theory we want to be able to hook a laptop up
and have it sync within, say, 5 mins. Trouble is, if agents for
the other laptops are running (trying and failing to connect because
those laptops aren't connected) then the agents for the laptop that
*is* connected won't run. It seems to be a 'maximum number of running
agents' issue. Is this is user defined setting, and if so where can I set it?

Many thanks, sorry if this has been answered many many times before.

Forgot to add - this is MSSQL2000 running under Small Business Server

See sp_changemergep ublication in Books Online - there is a
max_concurrent_ merge parameter. But I have to say that I've never used merge
replication myself, so you might want to post on
microsoft.publi c.sqlserver.rep lication to see if there are any problems
associated with changing this value, or if there's a completely different
way to handle the issue.

Many thanks for the info. I actually got around it by changing the
number of retries to zero and making each laptop's start time offset by
one minute. This way there's never more than one set of agents running
at one time (unless there's a huge amount of data to merge). Seems to
work a treat :-)

I am using SQL 8 Personal edition with sp2 applied. I set the max server memory to 32MB and leave the min server memory at 0. When my application starts hitting the database hard the memory usage reported through task manager peaks between 41-42MB. I've stopped and restarted the MSSQLserver service and checked that the running values are what I set them to be. Does anybody have any ideas as to why the sqlservr.exe would be utilizing more...

Hello, I'm designing a small "briefcase" program that will allow me to quickly upload, download, and delete files in a briefcase. The only real things that I have left to do are to design a method for checking if the file exists, preventing it from overwriting files from other directories, and setting a user-configurable maximum limit on the file's size. The former two, I can handle by myself with no problem. However, the I'm having a...

I'm implementing paging through search results using cursors. Is there a better way to know total number of rows under a cursor than running a separate COUNT(*) query? I think PostgreSQL is bound to know this number after the first FETCH, isn't it? On a side note, why queries using LIMIT are SO terribly slow, compared to cursors and sometimes even ones without LIMIT? Shouldn't LIMIT be internally implemented using cursor mechanism then?...

I'm trying to investigate the maximum size of different variable types. I'm using INT as my starting variable for exploration. I know that the maximum number that the int variable can take is: 65,535. But i'm trying to write a program to test this, assuming I didn't know this number in advance. I came up with the following but have two questions. Maybe someone can help? using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Text;

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
