installation error

i try to install PostgreSQL 8.1. i have installed it befor now and had to uninstall because of i fogot my password.

now i cant install. it will give several errors such as "the account already exist" etc.

but when i gave a completly new name it will give the following error


"internal accout lookup faliure:no mapping between account name and security ID's was done."

please any one can help me

Is this on a *nix box? Did you check to see if PostGreSQL created a user on the first install, and if that username is still existing on the box?

i have the same problem but i unistall postgres, then i delete the old folder, whan itry to reinstall i have this problem..
i use it under win Xp if you can help

You have to delete user postgres, when installing postgres its creates a user account on windows, so delete this user and whole dir of previous installation.

I tried to find the user account on windows XP but it still displays my administrator name and the guest. there isn't' any other users account there. I receive the exact same messes as these individuals. is there somewhere else to look for the user account.

I don't use PostgreSQL on Windows, but it appears the Postgres creates a new user in a way that you don't see this account from Control Panel->Users, but you can find it if you look into your "%SystemDrive%\ Documents and Settings\" directory.
(Typically C:\Documents and Settings)

C:\Documents and Settings> dir
Volume in drive C is System
Volume Serial Number is 50X2-9512

And if you opted for creating a detailed installation log when installing Postgres (seems like a good idea anyway) you will find the username there as well.

first delete the old postgres user from control panel - administrator tools - computer management - local user and groups - users - delete the psotgres user from this, then install the fresh postgres and check it, it may be working very well....., try and post your feedback

I had a similar problem with reinstalling postgre. I deleted those user accounts and I proceeeded okay with the new in stallation.
