I can't seem to find any way to specify the character encoding with the DB
API implementation of PyPgSQL. There is no mention of encoding and Unicode
in the DB API v2.0 spec and the PyPgSQL README.
When I have Unicode strings in Python and store it in a PostgreSQL Unicode
database, will the data automatically be correctly encoded? Or do I need
to specify the UTF-8 client encoding on the database connection somehow?
I'm using the...

hello!
does anybody know how well the pg extension in PHP for PostgreSQL supports
UTF-8 character sets? functions such as pg_escape_string would be of
particular concern as they go whipping through strings replacing things.
are these functions tuned to the input string type, the database string
type, or just hardcoded as 8859-1?
thanks!

Hello group,
For everyone who thinks about moving from MySQL to PostgreSQL I have a
realy bad news - It's not worth. Why, You may ask... A few days ago I
have installed and tested PostgreSQL, becouse I realy need UTF-8 support
and subselects. I thought that PostgreSQL will be as good as MySQL but
also will give me that features, which aren't availble in MySQL. Well,
after installation and moving my MySQL dbs into PostgreSQL I decided to...

Hi,
After a very recent postgresql update, the postmaster failed to start
because of this:
| PANIC: The database cluster was initialized with LC_CTYPE
| 'nl_NL@euro.UTF-8', which is not recognized by setlocale().
| It looks like you need to initdb.
Now I know nl_NL@euro.UTF-8 is an incorrect locale, I fixed that some

Hi,
I am pretty new to the postgresql community.
My question may seem a little bit strange but
I'd like to know if it is possible to run 2
postgresql processes with 2 separate databases on the
same machine (change of the ports, different paths to
logs, ...)?
Thanks in advance for your answers.

I'm trying to create and populate some study tables using a couple of scripts
that came with my 'SQL in 10 minutes' book. This is how I tried to run the
script to create and populate tables in a database named test:
test-# \i create.txt
psql:create.txt:1: ERROR: syntax error at or near "" at character 1
Here is the top of the script:

I have a PostgreSQL database encode in UTF-8. I try to do a mail merge from OOwriter. This seems to work except for non western characters. E.g. when I access the database from pgAdmin, a GUI client I can see all UTF-8 encoded characters. When I cut a text from the GUI and paste this text in OOwriter everything works well. The same text through a mail merge only shows question marks. An example:

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
