Seeking PostgreSQL consultants

My company is ramping up for a long ERP conversion project from Progress
RDBMS and 4GL (www.progress.com) to a Postgresql/Java solution. I'm
seeking an *expert* consultant(s) to establish an relationship with.

We initially need help on deciding the best allocation of hardware for the
application and for postgresql specifically. I say "initially" because it
is highly likely we will need expert Postgresql consulting from time to
time during the (est) 18 month project.

If you have/work for a company that offers this type of service, please
email me at john[dot]wells[at]timco.aero with rates and experience.
Progress experience/knowledge is strongly preferred but not necessary.

Thanks!

John

Hi, I'm looking for an object-relational layer, which can wrap a MySQL database into highly pythonic objects. There seem to be dozens of packages which provide some of this functionality, but all the ones I've looked at so far have major drawbacks. What I'm looking for in an object-relational wrapper layer is:

A manager friend of mine sent me the following concern. He's preparing to shift to Postgresql from a proprietary DB and 4gl system: ----------- To that end, I've also started studying up on Postgresql. It seems to have all the necessary features for a transaction heavy DB. The recent release is 7.3. Of course, "the proof will be in the pudding." We average 2.5 million transactions per day or 800 per second. Unfortunately, we would...

First, I want to confirm my understanding that the "without fee" clause in the PostgreSQL license means that a party may not sell PostgreSQL or works derived from the PostgreSQL source code. Second, do loadable PostgreSQL modules constitute a derived work? Can a party develop new PostgreSQL types or functions and sell them as loadable modules under their own open or closed source license? Finally, do applications that install and rely...

This is a combo request for advice and advertisement. I'm sure there must be a forum out there where I can find people who would freelance simple databases in MS Access... Where would I find this forum and/or what are keywords that I would search for? I'm a former (very former) MS Access 2.0 programmer who has long gotten out of it and can't remember squat. Thanks, Bill

Thanks Tom, I originally set installed Postgresql as rpm with the Red Hat 8 installation. I upgraded using source and it put things in different directories. I think that this is the source of my problem. However, I think the updated version of Postgresql is not teh one the system is trying to use: >That says that when you say "psql", the system is trying to run the psql

.... will work on one page and yet not another... simplified for ease of reading, banging my head. I tried it using a response.text from an xmlHttp type "request" - would not alter the id='' I got the "clean" response.text as I poked it into a JS alert box to see it... so tried forcing it with a manual submit button using some nonense text - wil not change built a super simple change with a manual submit button - works!

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
