How can I find the time difference of two times in UNIX format

first find the difference in unix format as:

$date1=strtotime("now");
$date2=strtotime("last monday");
$diff=abs($date1-$date2);

now we get the time difference in seconds. We can convert it to days or years as needed.
In days it will be $diff/(60*60*24);
