I'm relatively new to PHP/MySQL and I've heard about maintaining a
persistent connection to the database. To save overhead, I'd like to
maintain the connection in a session variable, but I have a few
questions first.
I'm able to establish session variables and test them with isset() to
avoid re-defining them with each new web-page load. So is this really
as simple as
if (!isset($_SESSION)) {

Hello there - we have a fairly busy server and we just started to have
problems with PHP sessions failing. We've never had this problem before and
to be honist, out server traffic is lower than it has been in prior months -
so I'm really not sure what could cause this.
Could anyone suggest some potentiol avenues to explore for reasons that
could cause PHP sessions to fail?
Thanks for any suggestions!

I've noticed that session variables will persist on Mac IE even after all
browser windows have been closed. One must quit the program to clear the
session variables. This presents a security risk for my session variable
based security scheme.
Basically, the risk is that a user will login to my site, close the window
when done and allow someone else to come up to the machine, go back to my
site and be logged into the previous user's...

I am a relative newbie to MySQL. I had a Postfix+Courier+MySQL mail
server running for several months. It took me a week or so to get it up
and running in September. Now, I did a clean upgrade to Mandrake 9.2
and am reinstalling everything. This thing is kicking my ass and I
can't seem to get past it. I could really use some help if anybody has any.
Just for reference, this was my primary source for information on
installation and...

Got a simple problem.
I code some site and because Im a freak I made my own session-handling.
When a user open up my site it will check if there is a ssid in the url
if not generate one. this will be done by a function generate_ssid() and works fine.
next step is to register the ssid in the table session
this will be done by the following code:
*************************************************************************
function...

Hello, I'll bet this has been asked a million times but I can't seem to find
a thread that gives the clear example I need.
This PC has MySQL and IIS configured and running. The MySQL database is
"myDB" with a table "myUsers" with fields "Username" and "Password". I also
have the MySQL ODBC driver loaded with a DSN "dsnMySQL" setup.
First question is can someone direct me to a site or provide a sample code
for a login page that...

I have a MS background and am having fun in the open source world of
PHP and MySQL --- and I have a question.
With PHP and MySQL, is it considered better practice to open a single
database connection and re-use it throughout the life of the
application (simple Web application - low traffic), or is it better to
open a connection, use it and close it as needed?

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

In this session, we are pleased to welcome a new presenter, Adolph Dupré who will be discussing some powerful techniques for using class modules.

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
