how can you use flash files while NOT allowing users to get those files?

I added an .htaccess file to the directory which disallowed access to:
/directory/

but I could still access
/directory/files.gif

I want to prevent someone stealing my flash files.

I can put it in a directory outside the web root but having trouble making
that work. The fiels are not displayed. Here's the directory structure I
used for that effort:

/d1
/d1/images/file.swf
/d1/www/site1(webroot)/d3/page.php

Page.php needs to display file.swf in the directory structure above.

Any other ideas? Thanks

Looks like you need to post to alt.apache.conf iguration for the .htaccess file
then.

Then it needs to be in the web root, or a separate PHP script needs to output
its contents. You can't allow users to view a file without downloading it. Who
are you protecting this from? Who is allowed to view the file?

ok, heres an idea, what about using flash comm with javscript, tio
check wether or not the swf file is inside the page, and have the flash
file LOAD snother file within, the real movie?

so, u woulc check for a var called z123, and if it has a value, then
load the inner movie, else, dont bother, be advised, however, that
products like softtonic offer the power users the posibility to
decompile your swf files, and checking the source for that kind of
stuff, making any attempt of protecting the stuff u send over the net a
useless waste of brain cells.

Won't it be easier to just check the movieClip's _url property inside
the SWF file itself?
