Installation package

6 New Member
Hi.
I lastly finished writing a perl application.
The application uses several modules like tk etc ...

Im now willing to send this application abroad.
The users which going to use this perl application have already installed perl on their computer.
However , the other moduls are not installed on users computers.

I would like to built this installation script which will install the modules automatically and not by entering PPM/CPAN.

my main goal is to send this application and not get "CANNOT FIND ... @INC" when I loading the perl application.

I downloaded the modules manually but I dont really know how to hook them all into one installation script .

thank you very much

You can write a small batch file like the one below

Expand|Select|Wrap|Line Numbers
  1. REM Modules to be installed by ppm:
  2. @echo off
  3. echo Installing Perl modules ...
  4. echo.
  5.
  6. echo Installing Perl module directly from PPM
  7. call ppm install Config-IniFiles
  8.
  9. echo Installing Perl module directly from Harddisk
  10. call ppm install C:\perl_modules\Tk-Date.ppd
  11.
  12. echo Installing Perl module directly from external webpage
  13. call ppm install http://theoryx5.uwinnipeg.ca/ppmpackages/IO-Socket-SSL.ppd
  14.

A Great thought is to convert your application into an executable and ship it off to your clients. Advantage of this is that your clients dont even need to have perl installed on their machines.

to do this install PAR module.

ppm> install PAR

once installed you can create executable files by this command

pp -o output.exe input.pl

make sure if u are using downloaded modules in ur script then u are using the use command.Eg: if u are using DBD:Oracle which is a downloaded module then your perl script must have the line

use DBD::Oracle.
......
......

Rest should be fine. The exe size is little big but you can get an executable that will run on any machine.

Let me know how it helped to geek491@yahoo.c o.in

I put together an installation program and it works great the first time. The problem I have is that we want the users to be able to rerun the installation without needing to uninstall the older package first. How can I set up the package to overlay the existing installation without forcing the user to run an uninstall first? Thanks, Rob Brown

Hi, I am developing a .NET app in C# and I am using the VS 2005 built in installer. Everything works fine except that when I build the installation project, it produces 2 files, a .msi and a setup.exe, when I really just want 1 setup.exe file. Any help would be greatly appreciated. -- Thanks

I have a program written in VB.Net 2003 and have to make it work on a Client without the vs.net framework. I was wondering if there is a way in which I can include dotnetfx within my deployment package and have my installation package to execute the dotnetfx installation package prior to the installation of the main application. Is the above strategy possible, if so how do I have to go about it?

HI I have multiple python installations. 2.2, 2.3, 2.4. When I install a new package (pygtk2) , it always install in python 2.3. I changed the /usr/bin/python to be 2.4 binary. Still the same behavior. How does rpms, determine which installation to update ? Is there a file somewhere ? I am running in to this on Fedora as well as CenOS. Thanks /J

I have developed an application using C# under .NET 2.0 framework. It is almost done and it is time for me to think about deploymnet to all users. I don't have any background about this and would like to see if anyone can help me get started. I have read some about clickonce deployment and not sure much about this yet. Thanks for your help.

Using Access 2003 front-end with SQL Server 2005 backend. I had used an installation packager in Office 2000 Enterprise, which allows one to create an installation package for Access applications that can be installed on systems without Microsoft Access. New we have only Office 2003 Professional, which does not have this facility.

i'm primarily a web developer, so this is probably a pretty stupid question to ask, but i'm trying to figure out how to run an installation package i'm writing in a VS setup project. as far as i've been able to tell, the VS setup template is only responsible for copying my installation EXE to the users's computer and do other misc things like add registry keys, but i need to have my installation EXE actually run during the set up process....

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
