Linking MS Access to Oracle

35 New Member
Hi,

I am trying to get some tables from the oracle 10g database that I have on my machine into an access database. I used the Get External Data option in access and followed the steps in this tutorial:
http://aspalliance.com/893_Creating_an _MS_Access_2003 _Front_End_for_ an_Oracle_10g_E xpress_Edition_ Database.2

For example, I tried getting the Employees and Departments tables from the hr schema. I was able to link them successfully, however when I click on them to view the data, the employees table produce the following error:

Could not execute query; could not find linked table [Microsoft][ODBC driver for Oracle][Oracle]ORA-00942: table or view does not exist (#942)

Microsoft Office Access can't open the table in datasheet view.

I deleted the data source created, gone through the same process and it worked fine. Now I am having the same problem with other tables.

What I mean is that it sometimes work fine other times it gives the error above.

I am using Access 2003 and Oracle 10g.

Please Help ..

Thanks

Architecture: Access 2003 client, Oracle 9i repository, no Access security in place, ODBC linked tables. 100 or so users, in 3 or 4 groups (Oracle roles actually): Admins, Updaters and ReadOnly. Each group sees a different set of menu options when they open the client and login to Oracle. For the sake of speed I use pass-through queries here and there for updates and deletes. I update their SQL property in code and execute them.

I have a series of about 10 test databases with about 34 linked table each. I need to create an Access 2003 database front end for each of these. I am currently trying to write a script that will allow me to link Access 2003 tables to Oracle tables. The problem is that the Oracle table that I am linking to does not have primary keys. This is a problem because when I write the VBA to link the tables, the linkes tables do not end up with...

I have the task to set up an application at work, using MS Access as a front end to a MySQL database. This will be done using an appropriate ODBC driver, and linking the MySQL database to Access. My question is whether it is possible to set something up so that when linking to the MySQL database, the user name which is used for the MySQL connection is taken as the user's Windows ID. If so, then I can set up users and access grants in MySQL...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
