ODBC error - linking to oracle

High there everyone,

I have inherited a database with an odbc table (linking to an oracle
database) , we have recently updated our operating environment to
windows 2000 (access 2000). since then everytime i try to add a
record to the linked table i get the following error ODBC call failed
sqlerrm(tablena me)(#-391)

I have found out that the sqlerrm table in oracle is an error table
but I haven't been able to find out what is causing the error. I am
wondering if its permission based - but thats just a theory.

anyone got any ideas?

:)

Have you tried verifying the Oracle ODBC connection within your ODBC Data
Sources? Control panel -> Administrative Tools -> Data Sources (ODBC)

Mark Day.

Thanks Mark,

Yes I have tried that and it is fine. I think the error message is
due to null fields or incorrect data being supplied to the table but
can't find any information to confirm my suspicion.

:)
Any other help would be appreciated!

OK, I had a problem that I've now fixed but I can't really understand what was causing it in the first place. I have an intranet site that uses basic authentication to allow users to view and update information from an Oracle DB (ver 8.1.6 -- ancient, I know). Anyway, the site worked fine as long as the machine accessing the ASP page was running Win 2k but when an XP machine tried to view the page, the client got an error: Microsoft...

Dear Experts, I'm attempting to marry a system to an Oracle 817 datbase. Oracle is my specialty, the back end mainly, so I don't know much about java or javascript. The system uses javascript to make ODBC calls to the db. The particular system I'm working with, will not work with an Oracle stored procedure I'm told. However, it

I am using Access 2003 and are linking to an Oracle 9i ODBC datasource (using Oracle ODBC drivers). After linking the tables in Access, I inspect the data contained in the linked tables. For tables that involve a number field as the primary key, the data is returned successfully. For tables that involve a character field (e.g. CHAR(3) or VARCHAR(10)) as the primary key, I have the correct number of rows returned, but the data displayed...

Hello All, Is there any way to close an ODBC connection via DSN without completely closing the Access front-end? I'm doing some testing with using Access as a front-end to Oracle 10g Express edition. When the user ID and password is entered on a form and after a successful connection it seems Access doesn't change the connection. Even if I enter an invalid user ID and/or password the connection continues to work.

Hello All, What is the maximum length of an ODBC pass through query? Things work fine with the code except when I try to create a view which is pretty complex in Oracle. I'm using a DSN provided with the Oracle Express Edition and using Access 2k2 as the front-end. When I debug print the SQL and paste it into SQLplus it works fine. The length of the debug print that works is 1988 characters. Since the exact same code works with...

hello, I've got a big problem ad i'm not able to resolve it. We have a server running oracle 10g version 10.1.0. We usually use access as front end and connect database tables for data extraction. We have been using oracle client 10.1.0.2 with it's odbc for a while without problem. The problem arose when we decided to reconnect all the tables and save password. Some query became suddenly very slow. Then I've discovered that the tables...

I have a number of databases in MS Access 97. Some tables in these databases are linked to ODBC tables in Oracle9/10. We would like to change the user name and password on the Oracle tables so each database in MS Access linking to the tables in Oracle will need to be relinked with the new credentials. We would also like to automate this process of dropping the old links and making a new one through a module that can be run in every database....

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
