I have an NT/W2K service that spawns 3 worker threads that each do different
things. For example, one monitors an email mailbox for incoming items and
puts them in a queue for processing by a 2nd thread. The 3rd thread polls a
database for updates and performs different processing. The actual
implementation is more complicated than this, but that's the basic
architecture.
My question is this: How do I gracefully shut down the service...

Hi everybody.
I've got a problem. I'd like to avoid opening a new window when you
have pressed the shift key and you click in the left button of the
mouse. I've tried the next solution, in the body of the page I put the
next code:
<BODY onkeydown='notOpenNewWindow();'>

Hi all! I'm not sure where to post this so I'm giving these a try. If there
is a better (more appropriate) place to post please let me know.
I want to create a service (in C#). The service's purpose is to monitor a
given service, and when the service becomes disabled and/or stopped I want
to restart the service.
I have figured out how to restart a stopped service by using the
ServiceController.Start() method.

I have a Web Service that I am reponsible for that we use for data
integration purposes. Recently I have been tasked with sending some of this
data to a third party. Because they need to receive the data in real time.
They have requested that I subscribe to a Web Service that they have
published. The only problem is that they often take longer than 30 seconds
to process my data before I get a response back from them. This is taking
far...

When to use a privileged user thread rather than a windows service?
That's the question raised in a previous post . It was suggested that if the service needs to interact
with a WinForms app (which is the UI used to adjust the actions taken by,
and the schedule of the service), then a privileged user thread should be
used in the UI - no service required.
But...

I have a window service that spawned a separate thread. Now I would
make sure to process some work and then close the thread. After I
closed this thread I wanted to shut down the service but would never
be able to stop service even though I would call OnStop() on the
service. Now I went another way with the solution and had a timer in
the service kick off and do some work. With this sol. I was able to
close down the service without any...

Hi All
I have a server based C# console application. This application must
hide its console window when its launched out on the field. So I
dutifully P/Invoke'd FindWindow/ShowWindow combination to hide the
console window at launch time.
The application (for legacy reasons) hangs around by waiting on an old-
fashioned Console.ReadLine() statement.

Hello!
Below I have the two methods OnStart and Start that are relevant to my
question.
If I do net start TimeServerService I will see something like Service
TimeServerService starting .........
It wasn't possible to start the service TimeServerService
The reason for this it that OnStart doesn't return becuse it will stuck in a
loop in the
Start metod.

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
