Dns.Resolve taking too much time

Hi

I'm writing a socket client application in C#. The problem is that the
statement

IPHostEntry hostEntry = Dns.Resolve(szI PAddress);

takes too much time. Even if the IP address is of a system within the LAN,
this takes around 10-12 seconds. Does anyone have any idea why does it take
too long to resolve an IP address. Is there any work around for this issue.

One thing I've noticed is that if I give the IP Address to this Resolve
function, it takes this long, but if I give it the system name (considering
the system is within the LAN), it returns immediately.

Please help, as there is a screen where I have to connect to multiple
servers using thier IPs and show thier status and it takes long for this
function to return. It takes even longer if any server is down.

Regards

Usman

Hi, I've to migrate an existing code in asp to asp.Net. The asp code uses ServerXMLHTTP to call some services. Same thing will be done using HttpWebRequest in the asp.Net code. The problem is keeping everything same HttpWebRequest takes around 100-200ms more than ServerXMLHTTP to call the service. The bottleneck was HttpWebRequest.GetResponse, which was taking most of time. Once I set the ContentLength for HttpWebRequest object it

This is a copy of a message I previously posted in a Microsoft Access Newsgroup, but it was suggested to me that my problem is ASP related and not Access, and hence I'm posting in this newsgroup now instead. Hi everyone, I've got quite a specific query that I'm trying to resolve with Microsoft Access and I'm hopeful someone out there can offer a solution to my problem. I have records that I'm displaying on a web page from an Access...

I have a process where I do some minimal reformating on a TAB delimited document to prepare for DTS load. This process has been running fine, but I recently made a change. I have a Full Text index on one column, and punctuation in the column was causing some problems down the line. This column is used only for full text indexing, and otherwise ignored. I decided to use the following regular expression to remove all punctuation (actually...

I really am not sure if this question belongs in this newsgroup, but not sure where else to ask it. There is someone working on a game that I tested, and it was taking >30 seconds to load. He stated that everyone else was taking 2 or 3 seconds. Then he found one other person taking >30 seconds, and it turns out the common denominator was both of us have Intel chips (Celeron) where the other people have AMD. I had him send me his code...

DNS.GetHostByAddress runs very slow for foreign IPs. I heard that DNS.BeginResolve can make asynchronous IP to Host resolve. Can anyone provide me an example of VB.NET code that would make asynchronous DNS.beginResolve call? I need it to make a try to resolve the IP to HOST and to quit if it's taking longer than 5 seconds.

Thank you for taking the time to look at this: I'm looking for a pre-processor command that will allow me to resolve const strings into const char literals at compile time. Looking at the code below, I can take 5 characters and create a const uint64_t value at compile time. I can then create a switch statement that has these const values as the various cases. Since each case resolves to an integer constant value at compile time,

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
