Use SHGetFileInfo to obtain the icon associated with a file extension. See
the MSDN documentation for the flags that you must use.

Hello group I'm developing a file application, but I have run into a problem that I hope you can help with. My application lists a number of files (names). Now I would like to display the proper file icon before I display the file name. E.g. if it is a .doc file, I would like to display the Microsoft Word icon. The icon should depend on which program is associated with the file type.

All, Couple of questions: 1. I am using the SHGetFileInfo() function that has been posted several times on the forum to get the icon associated with an extension. Is there a way to find out if an association does NOT exist? This function will return a generic default icon if there's not an association, but how can I determine that in code?

I am building this SQL Server database app in which i can store files. In order to display files I want to have the app show the associated icon for the extension of the file that is in the database. Therefore the file doesnt really exist on the user's hard drive. All the file extracting techniques require that I have the actual file on the drive in order to get an icon for it. There is a workaround for this: i could create dummy files with...

I already found that I have to use SHGetFileInfo to get the System's associated icon with that file. But what about I just want to get associated icon for some specific extensions? For example, 'avi'. Think of a P2P program. The user searched for 'avi', and the program should show result avi files with associated icons but there's no actual file on the users system. Maybe a workaround is to create a dumb (0KB) temp.avi file somewhere on...

I'm storing system files in a sql server database, as "image" datatype fields. In my front end (vb .net 1.1) I'd like to display these files in a listview with the "Windows Explorer" feel and look. I'm strugling to retreive the apropriate icon for the file extension, so far all the code I saw, it seems like that I have to pass a file name that exists in Windows O/S system file, in my case I'm not dealing with files strored in the O/S,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
